This hotel as 3 strong points: its proximity to the messe - so you can walk there, the rooms are large by German standards so you have space, and it has very good transport connections. As a bonus a very decent breakfast service.
There are major drawbacks included: its in a working class neighbourhood, its very noisy and busy, there is no restaurant service in the hotel and no decent ones close by. And the hotel really needs a major reno job and soon.
Lastly, if you are used to traveling under the Wyndham brand in North America - which I am - this is a surprisingly different experience for the all the reasons above noted. Generally Tryp can work but its simply not consistent with Wyndham's North American branding - so its confusing.
Under North American standards - this is a 2 star hotel - point finale.

We stayed here at the end of our vacation, the night before flying out of Frankfurt. We got in late at night via train, but late check in was no problem. Loved how handy it was to the train station. Got a good night's sleep, enjoyed their breakfast the next morning, then walked across the street to catch a train to the airport. Friendly staff, nice room, GREAT value, and excellent location for train travelers!! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The hotel is big and clean, the staff was welcoming without pestering.
The breakfast buffet was very big maybe a toasted bread option would be welcomed but great selection of breakfast drinks. I found the place very good looking and was pleased with mini fridge to store my own food.
The WIFI was fast and included.

Starr Inn Frankfurt is a good budget hotel. At first we were given the wrong room type (full bed rather than 2 twins) but the staff quickly corrected the problem. The facility appears to be new. The room itself was spartan and quite small but immaculate and well-equipped. The only problem was the WiFi. The hotel uses a mobile service's hotspot that requires a complicated login process that is a major pain when it works, and it did not work half the time. Once again, hotel staff were responsive in coming up with a fast solution.
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the main train station, which is blessing and a curse. It is good to be close when you need to travel quickly. Also, the Old Town is only two two subway stops away. However, it is in a very seedy part of town with a lot of shady people. Inside the hotel, we felt perfectly safe, but use care when going outside.
If you want to spend as little as possible while getting a new, clean, and safe room in Frankfurt, then you will enjoy Star Inn Frankfurt.
