Tibet is crisscrossed with fabulous attractions, from firm tourist favorites to hidden gems that still await discovery.
If the weather forecast makes you want to head indoors, plan to spend some of your time in Tibet's palaces.
If you're not the kind of traveler to take a break merely to shuffle between the buffet and the bar, the area around Gyantse offers a number of action-packed pursuits such as hiking and horse riding. Tibet is an excellent place to join up with a range of guided nature walks available here.
Local dishes are an excellent way to get to know the area in which you are traveling. So take the time to visit some of Tibet's bars, cafés and restaurants. How about trying tingmo (steamed bun) or thenthuk (noodle soup)? Both meals are a favorite choice in this area.
Before you leave on your adventures do as smart travelers do and learn to understand a variety of useful phrases in Mandarin. Why don't you try "Nǐ yào bú yào gēn wǒ tiàowǔ" This means "Would you like todance with me?" And, for "This gentleman/lady will pay for everything", you can practice the phrase "Zhèiwèi xiānsheng huì qīngdān" Why don't you give it a spin!
When it's time to return to the familiarity of home, you'll be bidding this special place a fond Zàijiàn (farewell).
