Big room, bad decorPosted Sep 6, 2013 on Hotels.com
If you get a room in the annex you get lots of room, the bed was comfy and the breakfast was good. generally the room décor was very tatty, wall paper hanging off, the en-suite badly needs refurbishing, the tiles have no grout, the toilet was loose on the floor, the toilet seat was fixed on with silicone sealant, the water pressure was fantastic but shower head fixture could not handle it so during a shower the head becomes loose and flails around the bath soaking the floor. The reception staff need some more training or internal communication, on day one I could charge to the room, on day two I could not?

RoomPosted Sep 2, 2013
Pros: The grounds are lovely and the Reception staff excellent - outstanding service.
Cons: Room décor and sound-proofing
Location: Did not stay long enough to find out - activities in Lewes
Room very poor décor, not in keeping with the rest of the hotel and grounds. Work appears to be on-going to improve some areas of the hotel, but room leaves a lot to be desired. Almost no sound-proofing either - very noisy.

Don't go herePosted Aug 20, 2013
Pros: The grounds and country setting
Cons: The apalling management/administration which placed an unfair burden on staff who were totally untrained to cope with what confronted them
Location: Great - thank God. There were two good pubs nearby that provided us with somewhere to eat in the evenings - something the hotel was unable to do
Can't list the deficiencies in 1500 characters. Maybe best summed up as our finding the real life model for Fawlty Towers.

Tatty and basic but cheapPosted Aug 19, 2013
Tatty décor, peeling wallpaper, creaky bed with collapsed mattress, no TV remote, noisy corridors, and tasteless breakfast. Might be a good idea if they spent a fraction of the over-the-top garden statues on refurbing the interior.

Ideal for most travels they will accommodate youPosted Jul 26, 2013
Pros: The friendly helpful staff
Cons: Room cleaning
Location: Ideal for using as a base for family's
Staff are there for you not a customer but as a individual highly recommended I will always us them as my first choice and wiil be returning. They are very competitive in pricing and would suit any one , couples family's and road reps . Only comment sheets could be changed and the room cleaned more often , but given the personal overall service it is a Minor point

Lovely breakPosted Jul 23, 2013
The hotel is under new management and undergoing a refurbishment. When it's fully completed, it will be a super hotel.

Disappointed customerPosted Jul 18, 2013
Pros: The tennis courts looked fantastic.
Cons: Lack of information regarding the refurbishment prior to booking
The hotel has obviously just changed hands and some disruption is to be expected whilst refurbishment is in progress. The room in which I stayed was basic with dated furniture and a bathroom which is in need of some basic improvements. The shower was no more than a few drips, the wash basin taps had to be turned several times before any water came out and the toilet was cracked. The hotel was under-occupied and as a result the whole place lacked any atmosphere. The bar was not open and when I asked the receptionist for a drink, I was asked what I wanted and was served with a drink from behind the shutters. I intended eating in the restaurant and although there was some background music, there was not a customer or waiter in sight and no menus to be seen. In fairness the breakfast was of a reasonable standard and the waiter was obliging. I doubt very much if I would stay here again. With considerable investment in the building, grounds and staff training it could be a really good place to stay..... Time will tell.

May be better in timePosted May 12, 2013
This hotel is evidently undergoing a refurbishment but they seem to be concentrating on the garden area (with its strange ornaments) rather than the shabby rooms - with no soap in the bathroom. The entrance to the car park is very impressive and it gets slowly more disappointing as you work your way through the hotel...carpet in the bathroom floor, old fashioned curtains and £5.75 for a large glass of wine in the bar (which closed early on a Saturday night). Post-renovation it may be lovely but, for now, it's overpriced for what it is.

Ideal locationPosted Mar 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
My husband & I have stayed at the Boship before when attending family/ friends' occasions, so it is a particular favourite of ours in terms of its character and location plus memories. We chose to stay there this time as we were attending a special family occasion nearby. The welcome and customer service was very good, particularly from the Receptionist who really went out of her way to be helpful. On arriving we were pleased to see the improvements made to the outside grounds. We could also see that some improvements were being made to the inside but there is a way to go to update the tired-looking decor. It was a particularly cold/icy day and it was a shame that they were unable to light the open fire in the bar area because they had "no firelighters" - we sat with our coats on and then decided to move to another local bar!! Also the main hotel door and that of the one leading from the restaurant area to the bedrooms were very squeaky which became very annoying after a while and cannot have been fun for the receptionist either - all for the want of some WD40! The breakfast was good, as was the service. We really hope that the much needed upgrade to the decor is made sooner rather than later. We look forward to checking out the improvements some time in the future.
