Overall an Awesome StayPosted Oct 10, 2012
Pros: The history
Cons: Some rooms have shared bathrooms
Location: Spectacular view and quiet setting.
The hotel was perfect! The owners were up early each morning to put out coffee and pastries for the guests. The owners was friendly and helpful with ferry reservations, car rental info, walking tours, historical info and where to dine each evening. The rooms were immaculately clean. The hotel had much history and many fascinating period items. The rates were good and the setting and view from the hotel was spectacular!.

For the independent Alaska travellerPosted Sep 27, 2012
Pros: Fabulous building, good people.
Cons: No breakfast
Location: Up on a hill, and a reasonably short walk into town.
Run by very nice people, helpful, and seem to genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. Fabulous alternative for the independent traveller, and such a step up from Skagway and it's cruise circus.

quaint, but old and wornPosted Jul 28, 2010
Was originally going to get a room with a shared bath, but the room was smaller than a closet and the shared bath even smaller. I upgraded to a private bath and the room was very quaint, but old and worn. The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent.

fun placePosted Sep 17, 2007
Wanted a nice place in a remote location, and this was it. Near the end of season, good food, nice bar; place locals also went to. Sort of reminded me of the a smaller version of the resort in the movie "Shining"; of course in a good way. Within walking distance to main town, but bike rental available for going farther. Didn't need to rent a car, but they were also available.
