"Gem!"
Lovely hotel situated on a mountainside setting with full views of the ocean. We stayed in a Japanese style room, first experience on a futon....uncomfortable, but the room was very cool.

"Best room we had in Japan"
Almost everyone was lovely in this hotel. The room was immaculate. The onsen was immaculate. The free drinks in the evening were fun. There were a few minor disappointments: - one side of the hotel was closed; I think it might have had the public room with the view; I felt the hotel was a bit claustrophobic because of this. - checking out we had hoped to get the Hyatt bus to the station but this bus wasn't available until 11am; to my mind that's a bit late as plenty of people have onward travel plans (ours included catching a train at 8:39am). - with regard to the free drinks - this was nice but dangerous; some lovely waiter kept refilling my glass the first night and I wasn't paying sufficient attention; I think it would definitely be safer and probably be cheaper for the hotel to supplement the alcohol with a bit of free food/ nibbles. The second night we cottoned on and ordered some (paid for) nibbles but even then it wasn't all that much. - an elderly Japanese staff member got cranky at me for wearing my slippers in the wrong part of the onsen; this was the part between the door and the shelving for the shoes; there is no sign and there was no collection of abandoned shoes at the door and I honestly can't see how I was supposed to know to take my shoes of at that particular point. Possibly this is obvious to Japanese people but as a guest in Japan this was the one and only moment in which I felt a local person was angry at me for a cultural failing.

Staff was friendly and catered to international tourist. They even upgraded us to a bigger room with a private bath with hot spring water! Included breakfast, across the train station, good value.

"Atmospheric historic hotel"
Absolutely loved the hotel which oozes history. Felt like we were in some period film set in Meiji era Japan. Wood panelled reading room, conservatory for afternoon tea where John Lennon and Yoko Ono had apple pie, japanese garden. We had a japanese breakfast in the traditional Japanese dining area which was beautiful although the food was challenging to our Western taste buds (and we are adventurous - beware the pickled plum!). Western dining area available. Great bakery in the hotel grounds. Public bath (segregated by gender) in the basement was a fun experience although the bathing area and swimming pool are a little tired. Hotel is in a mountain village with antique shops and a great cafe by the train station. Well place for sightseeing in Hakone. Worth lingering in the hotel itself.

"Convenient"
We caught a taxi $10 to the hotel as it was a little hard to find.. Once there we were convenient to the bus, they had a free shuttle to the train.. We had a lovely time in Hakone. The beds in the hotel were hard but I think that is in all hotel in Japan.. We would suggest purchasing a free pass while staying in Hakone it was great value. There are little grocery stores. The food and drinks were expensive everywhere in Hakone.

"Good onsen option for foreigners"
Good choice for foreigners to get a true hot springs experience. Attractive baths with some outdoor pools, both at the hotel and you get privileges to go to another hotel bath across the street, which has outdoor pools as well and interesting rocks. Dinner in room was very good, full range of dishes, but not top gourmet. Breakfast was generous food bar with everything Western or Japanese. Room was extra large with big tatami area. Road up to the hotel is hair-raising. They seem to be happy with foreigners, but some language still helps since there are many details you need to know to be a good guest. A distance from the station and shops, so no reason to go walking. Ladies need to grab a flowered yuukata that they put out at the elevators at late afternoon, otherwise you wear the drab standard. The cost was very reasonable, compared to other places with good baths and included food.
