At the train station, there is a large sign with directions to walk to the hotel. There weren't any taxis around and the shuttle wasn't sheduled for another hour and a half so we decided to walk with our rolling suitcases. It was a long distance, but we figured walking wouldn't be bad. Unfortunately, what the sign doesn't say is that the whole way is up endless steep hills. It took us a long time to walk the way and it would have been longer if an employee hadn't stopped to pick us up after we passed the sign. The grounds are beautiful, however, and the hotel is immaculate. We didn't get to experience the onsens or their other facilities, but we walked through and they were nice. Dinner was another matter. We were told only one resturant was open and we had to make reservations. When we got there, we were the only people in our section. The waiter took long to get us a menu, much less water. He had to make a call every time we asked what was in the dish. The food came in good time, but our water glasses weren't refilled even though they were empty. The food was disappointing for a Hilton. The waiter did not check how our food was or if we needed anything else. We waited almost 45 minutes for our check and he only came because we stood to leave. The other customers didn't appear to be getting much better service. When we complained, management said they were aware of the problem and would address it again. Not reassuring.
