“great just not the beds”
Very convenient location, friendly staff but the beds should have been replaced years ago. The hotel is due for some renovations in a few months so I understand that they don't want to put much money into the hotel before the work is done. However I'm not sure the beds will last until then. Otherwise the stay would have been perfect. I've never stayed in a hotel where all of the employees were so friendly.
“excellent service for both my wife and I and the kids”
The overall experience with the hotel was excellent. Very one was great. When we first pulled up to the hotel, it looked like it could have used a makeover. But I guess what they "Never judge a book by the cover". Would clearly recommend this hotel to friends and family.
“budget friendly, well located, clean accomodations”
overall, I found the Citadel good value for the money. It was very clean, the staff were courteous and the location was very handy to downtown Halifax. I will most likely use this hotel again for a return visit!
“Never Again”
Came to this hotel about 7 years ago and again this week-- it is rundown now dark halls, peeling wallpaper dumpy- never again-
“Good location, but a bit older”
This hotel was in a pretty good location, a couple blocks from the waterfront and right next to Citadel Hill. The police station is right behind the hotel. The hotel itself was a bit old though and gives the impression that its dirty because its so dark and dingy. The restaurant has good food, but its a bit pricey.
“Can't wait to go back”
Had a great time
“Nice, quiet and great location.”
Hotel is nice, good service, clean room, great location; near bars, restaurant, casino, harbour, good size indoor pool and other more.
“Great Location”
The hotel is very centrally located in the city of Halifax. We didn't require a rental car as everything was walking distance. Plus, the walking allowed us to burn off those extra vacation calories.
“Disappointment with Citadel Hotel, Halifax, N.S.”
The new girl at the desk gave us keys to another room, & stated that everything was "fine" now. No, we had to move everything from the first room to the second room, meaning that we had to load all of our things on to the first elevator, go down to the main level, & then move everything on to a second elevator to get to our 2nd room. I realized then that we had been moved from the new section of the hotel to the old section of the hotel. There was no offer to help us move all of our things again. My companion wears a hip/leg brace & walks with a cane. There was also no offer for a wheelchair. We had been given a dingy, substandard room with an old double bed, about as far from the elevators as one could get (remember, we were exhausted, & my companion needs assistance walking). I felt this was a vindictive room assignment, since I had "complained" about our first room (I had been respectful through the entire discussion). There was no attempt on the part of the women at the desk that night to be helpful or understanding, & no attempt to make sure these 2 guests had a good night at their hotel. It seems to me that we could, at least, have been given a room with a double bed in the newer section. Instead, we were banished to the old section, to a substandard room, with an old double bed. The gentleman/ manager at the front desk in the morning was very apologetic, asked about the wheelchair we hadn't been told about or offered, & was sincerely sorry about our experience there.
“Not impressed but the hotel has possibilities”
This hotel is a bit of a 'faded lady'. Ideally situated but needs an upgrade and a more attentive front desk staff ie. listening is good but delivery is poor. Management, however, did listen and compensated. I would go here again as previous experiences have been good and while this time was disappointing it was not horrible for the price and the location is excellent.
