Excellent Location for Argyle St or the Waterfront

Posted Jul 25, 2015
Pros: Pleasant staff, good central location for nightlife/dining options (please note earlier remark regarding having that billygoat feel). Buffet for $15.
Cons: Move Main check-in to Half Block Street that is below Hollis to provide a relatively traffic free area in which to unload bags and check in initially.
Location: Waterfront in 1 1/2 blocks down, Argyle St for Pubs and Restaurants 3 blocks UP (Note what UP means). Sightseeing requires a vehicle, dinner is walks
Warning! Room Thermostats/Fans may or may not function as designed. If you like it blistering hot, set it for cool, drop just one degree and prepare to turn your suite into a meat locker. Same issue with both suites. Staff looked at it, take our choice. Warning! Entrance on Super Busy One Way Street with Little Space for Short Term Stops to Check In, Expect to be the target of Honks, Hoots and Hollers while blocking the road. Warning! If unfamiliar with Halifax, Heading UP towards Argyle St really means UP (think 20% grade, 2' of rise per 10' of run). Nothing that is the Hotels fault, just be aware if steep inclines are not your idea of pleasure strolls for dinner

Gorgeous bouquet style hotel

Posted Jul 22, 2015
Absolutely loved the decor and ambience of the Hollis. Our room was amazing (king suite). We were blown away by the tv in the bathroom mirror (yes you read that correctly). The only compliant I could give would be the valet. The valet was busy the morning we checked out so a desk agent was sent to retrieve our rental & when she pulled our car in she tapped into the cab in front of the hotel. I wouldn't have mentioned it however the manager of te hotel had the nerve to ask my boyfriend if the mark was there prior when EVERYONE heard & saw the agent hit the taxi. Unprofessional and cowardly. Valet program needs to be looked into as only valet employees should be retrieving vehicles. Management also needs some further training in regards to how to deal with issues such as this.

Nice hotel and great location

Excellent hotel and staff. The only thing about my room was the tv in the main room doesn't point towards the couch. It points towards the wall so not really good for anything.

Two couples for three nights

Posted Jul 16, 2015
Pros: Location, cleanliness, and especially the staff
Cons: Parking!!!! and though towels were furnished for 4 people there was not racks to accommodated them all.
Location: Great location we walked to the waterfront, the Marine Museum, the Citadel, shops, restaurants, and the parade. Location could not have been better.
The stay was great! The room accommodated all of us and the staff was friendly and helpful. We were in walking distance of the waterfront, great restaurants, and most of the places we wanted to see. The main fault I had was parking, the lot is outside , unprotected and a free for all. Late in the day it was hard to find parking and sometimes hard to get out, plus you pay extra for parking. We managed and really enjoyed our stay!

Exterior didn't really look like hotel but room & staff were great. Lots of restaurants, shopping and pubs in walking distance.

Comfortable hotel, with excellent location

Posted Jul 7, 2015
Pros: Even a room on the side has a nice view on harbour. Friendly and helpful staff.
Location: There is a construction site on the opposite side of the same street, but it's not noisy at all - noisy phase of construction process is over.
We (2 adults, 2 kids) were there for 2 nights. Just a vacation trip to Halifax. Museums, citadel, ferry, lobster - everything is in walking distance. Hotel is located just in the middle - same distance to the shore, citadel, museums (5 min walk). Very friendly and helpful staff. Positive experience.

I chose on-line, and I chose well.

Pros: Walking distance to everything I could do.
Cons: I'd have to stay longer to be a good judge. Do wish I'd planned more time.
Location: Sorry. . .aside from what I mentioned above. . .didn't have that much time.
I didn't have much time in Halifax--I'm old and creaky, and was doing a "bucket list," marathon train trip. But the recommendations of the staff were spot on: Maritime Museum, wharf for souvenirs, post office, and a splendid restaurant.

Great downtown location

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Everything
Cons: From my stay........ nothing.
Location: All amenities were extremely close and very walkable
Room was clean, spacious and had a view of the harbor. Staff was very accommodating and very friendly. Not knowing the downtown area when booking, the hotel location was fantastic. Two blocks from the harbor boardwalk and all restaurants etc were within only a couple blocks. Would stay here again for sure!

Not a great value !

Posted Jun 24, 2015
Pros: Modern styling.
Cons: Pricing, over priced and parking sucked. Didn't leave me feeling comfortable leaving a expensive sports car in a totally unsupervised downtown lot.
Location: It is at the far end of the Halifax boardwalk on the water front , not the best location. Maritime Museum is close by.
Furnishings are updated, very modern but rooms are noisy and from a value perspective it seems expensive. Our stay with parking was $239 a night, breakfast not included. Seemed over priced for what the hotel offered. Parking was in the next block on a dirt/gravel parking lot , unsupervised but they charge $20 a night for it. They put a fence around the lot but leave the double gate open all night, what's the point? I think you could find a better value for your stay in the Halifax area.
