I’ve stayed at many A&O’s, so kind of knew what to expect. This one however is terrible. Nothing was clean. The wall boards beside the bed were disgusting. Grease mark from someone’s body oil were smeared everywhere along with footprints and hand marks. I took one of the towels in the room and wiped everything down with hot water and soap. The towel literally turned black. I know it’s A&O and nobody staying here should expect luxury but this place is beyond filthy.

They need more staff as I was waiting like 45 minutes to check in due to only one person in counter. Also the laundry does not work which is very inconvenient. There is a young man Taylor in the counter who needs more training as he does not take the time to give the appropriate directions to other places like the laundry.

I really felt there should be much bigger guest kitchen if you are hosting ppl for such a big number. The kitchen was just kept for namesake, it is too small and there nothing expect one induction stove and microwave. There are no facility of drinking water on the floors, and you have come everytime down to reception to just get a tap drinking water.. You have to stand in the same long reception queue where receptionist handles the checkin and checkout... The staff looks not that suppostive... Having a lot of areas for improvement

Great price at a great location. Our room was a bit noisy though. Our window was facing an inner yard that had a noisy ventilator running all night. So we had to sleep with the windows closed. Since we had one family room all 5 of us, the room became quite hot with bad air.

Absolutely everything on this property is filthy — one of the rooms had not been cleaned at all. Door was broken to the bathroom and no maintenance during the night available so how do use a public toilet in the basement multiple floors away. in the room, the trash and not been taken out with seven and hygiene products still there from the last group and trash and dust on everything. You have to make your own beds, and they give you a set of sheets, but the comforters are old and stained. The only positive of the entire place is availability of a decent washing machine and dryer. The lobby is crowded and the services poor… the elevator should not pass anybody’s inspection and even public areas such as the stairs are very filthy. You look out the window and see trash on every side and graffiti. Somehow a rather because of their price and the set up for groups they continue to be absolutely crowded and busy. I don’t know how because I can’t imagine anyone repeating!

Felt like not been welcome. Stuck up receptionist. Abrupt. Doesn’t show interest. Berlin receptionist four times better then the Hamburg. Good luck to the the hotel with these receptionist behaviour.

Reception was friendly and the place was CLEAN. That's not standard anymore for hostels. The bunk bed was kinda like a cabin or kid's playhouse, so decent privacy for a 6-bed dorm. Shower was hot with good pressure, shower gel provided. Didn't have food there, but grabbed a map and got excellent tips from reception staff for jogging routes and must-sees.

stayed at this property for it being not to far from miniature wunderland about a 20 minute walk. The breakfast is very good continental.The rooms are clean and comfortable but no bedside light.The lifts are very small only meant for 2 people.lifts are dirty inside need a clean and fresh coat of paint.The price for this property was excellent.

I was aware I was booking a cheap hostel but the dirtiness of the common areas was really shocking. It seemed like they haven’t cleaned the floor of the elevator since they opened the hostel. There is also a bathroom in the bottom floor that was truly disgusting. We are in December so you expect a warm lobby where you can chill if you don’t want to be in your room, but this wasn’t the case since the lobby was extremely cold at all times. I wouldn’t come back, not even with the low prices offered.

The guest is always wrong
I was asked whether I had a breakfast token on the first morning at breakfast. I wasn't given one at check-in, so, my response was 'no'. I had to leave my food and follow the person to reception for them to confirm breakfast was included in the room rate. Merely assuming I was at fault has put me off from booking at an A&O again.

Comparatively to other branches of A&O in Europe, it is slightly old, beds are not fully equipped with light, usd cables charger etc, old furniture but clean place and very cooperative staff.

Terrible experience!
We arrived and had to wait 45 minutes for someone to come and check us in, than we went up to the room to find no sheets in the bed. I went downstairs to let them know and they gave me sheets to do the beds myself… I went back up to do so and when I turned around one of the blankets there was vomit all over it. I went back down again and the reaction was “ that happens sometimes” like it was a normal thing. Than there where also 2 homeless guys coming into the lobby to search through the trash cans and none of the staff said anything. Terrible experience!

Good stay for the price. Nothing fancy, but room was clean and spacious! Close to the main train station (10 min walk max) but on a busier road so can be loud with the window open. Overall good stay based on price and location!

A very typical A&O hostel
A very typical A&O hostel, though it was a bit further away from the HBf than most other A&O hostels. I had to move rooms while I was there and while the first room was large and spacious, the second one was slightly cramped. So, your mileage may vary. The lift doors are slightly fiddly to open and some of them are quite stiff and you may require both your arms free to open some of them. Cleanliness in the rooms was good. There was a bit of a crisis in the guest kitchen when the refrigerator defrosted and the floor was flooded, but the night team dealt with it promptly.

Spacious clean rooms, though the walls are a bit too thin (one can hear conversations in the next door room a little too clearly) and the toilet and shower area can be a bit too small for a large person (so one is always bumping into the walls/taps, etc). The lift doors can require some upper body strength to operate. But, the place is clean and the staff are very helpful.

Location was best thing. Laundry is 8,50€. Nothing too remarkable about staff or amenities. Big rooms. Had fun there 100 percent because of who was in my room with me. Good bathroom facilities.

I wasn't thrilled with the state of this place - to the point that I preferred to stay elsewhere even if my reservation was non-refundable. The common areas do not look like the pictures at all. The pictures make it seem like the areas are spacious and well-lighted, while in reality, everything looked gloomy and unclean. Areas like the stairs/elevators didn't look well cared for either, the carpets were dirty as well. The room was clean but it didn't look nearly as spacious/fresh as in the photo (I understand these are taken with a wide lens, but still). While I get that the place is a part hotel, part hostel, I wasn't very keen on resting and working remotely while the people staying in the room next to me were blasting loud music through the afternoon. In short, it's probably not a bad place given the cost, if you book with the right idea about it. It wasn't what I was looking for at all.

People were professional, but very curt and not particularly friendly. Also, there was some miscommunication. On check-in, the staff member told us that we could simply order the lunch bags during breakfast the next day. However, at breakfast the next day, the staff member at the reception told us we had to pre-order it, so we weren't able to have those lunches after all.

Meh for the price.
The 6 person dorm I was in was full of the trash of the other 5 people, who were clearly a group. They would also make a lot of noise when coming into the room after staying out until the bars close (4 am in Germany). The room was also rather hot because the curtain rod was hung on the ceiling so it was not possible to open the window very much. It was cheap though so this is a mitigating factor for me.
