“No luxury hotel but worked for us”

We stayed at this hotel one night while traveling by train from Amsterdam to Copenhagen. We arrived in Hamburg at 8:00 pm and left the next day at noon. It's a 4 Euro cab ride from the central train station in Hamburg, so it was extremely convenient for our purposes. When we arrived, we were greeted by the proprietor of the hotel, who actually called us by our name (we must have been the only guests who hadn't arrived that night). Check-in went very smoothly, and he explained to us how the front door security worked. We stayed in a Quad Room, which had a queen size bed and a double bed, which worked well for our family of 4. The room was clean but definitely not luxurious. The hotel is not in the best neighborhood in town. Within a 4-5 block radius, we saw a number of sex clubs, and we even saw a woman who appeared to be a prostitute. Personally, I prefer hotels with a bit more luxury than this, so I wouldn't stay here for any extended period of time. However, it worked quite well for my family, which was looking for a clean room, big enough for 4, within walking distance of the Hamburg central train station.

“Down Town Den”

I used this hotel for a 3 night stay with my family, and couldn't wait to leave from the moment I got there. It was smack in the middle of the unlicensed red light area, and get hassled as soon as you leave the hotel. The rooms also have very thin walls, so expect noise til the early hours of the morning. The corridors seem very dark, even during the day. The best feature of the hotel is the breakfast, which is a good mixed buffet. The only staff you will encounter is a man on the desk, but do not disturb when he is reading his paper. He wont like that.
