“Impressive”

The location of the Holstenwall hotel is marvelous. The only negative is that the lobby smells of smoke due to the bar where smoking is permitted in the open setting. Luckily, we did not arrange for breakfast in the hotel, as the same open area, smoke filled, is where they serve breakfast. I think the smoking laws are changing in Germany soon.

“Good location”

Good location - walking distance to Reeperbahn and port attractions. Outside noise level can be high as located near major intersection. Bedroom and bathroom were fairly large.

“Good location for Holstenwall”

We found the hotel to be basic, clean although rather empty. We didn't eat breakfast as we found that 10Euros is rather over-priced for Hamburg. The hotel is in a quiet location although perfectly situated for exploring the St Pauli district, the Reeperbahn and Hamburg's City Centre shops and harbour. The room mini-bar came in useful and was quite affordable. I would recommend exploring the St Georg district which is very pretty and has some wonderful little shops and restaturants and is less grungy then the St Pauli district. For nightlife, I'd definitely go to the Schulterblatt and Schansenstrasse areas and also around the Neuef Pferde-Markt areas, although there are some good DJ Bars tucked away around the Reeperbahn too. Remember that shops are closed on Sundays. Most locals choose to take a walk around the harbour or take a cruise boat trip along the canals.

“500 yards from all the action but quiet enough”

Close to the Reeperbahn where main night life is. Close to the nearest underground station. (good public transport all around Hamburg) Hotel itself is Clean, functional, reasonable value, good brekkie and has a nice quiet bar. English speaking staff.

“Excellent location, excellent hotel”

The hotel is in an excellent location. Close to attractions yet removed enough for peace. Definitely would stay here again.

“Near Exhibition Centre”

This hotel was very convenient to the Exhibition centre being approx 20 min walk. On a fairly busy road, so I would ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Hotel could benefit from thicker walls and a restaurant. Hotel staff friendly and rooms very clean. I would reccommend this hotel and definitely stay here again.

“Good place, though some things lacking”

Very central, easy walk to metro station. Rooms comfortable, though beds were a little on the small side: small singles. No complimentary drinks of any kind. Staff very helpful. Breakfast excellent (buffet, good choice). Curtains a bit thin, let the light in. Bear in mind that the hotel is connected to a theatre, so I suspect that at weekends it may be noisy outside. Overall a convenient place to stay when attending a conference.

“Great friendly staff, cool bar in ground floor, surprisingly quiet.”

I stayed here for the Hamburg Marathon, and was hoping (but not expecting) for a quiet experience. I was surprised! the room was a bit "cozy", missing a few ammenities - kettle etc - but otherwise very comfy, very quiet and bright. The staff were VERY helpful, friendly and cool. Anything I asked for, they had an answer. The bar was nice as well - a low key space adjacent to the theater that is part of the hotel. The only issue is price...but I am viewing it from a US$ perspective, so obviously it is more expensive now.

“Convenient Location near interesting sights”

My room was basic, very clean and quiet, with a nice view of the Planten und Blomen park and Hamburg Museum. Internet access was included with my room, but it was a little troublesome to access as the instruction sheet procedure was inaccurate. The room included a safe, but it was not big enough to accommodate a laptop PC. The staff was pleasant and helpful when asked. The breakfast buffet was typical, but very fresh. The location was convenient.
