“Brilliant value.”

Went with four friends, and had a twin and triple room booked. Very courteous and helpful staff. A no frills but extremely clean and pleasant hotel for the price. Location ok - in the residential area, but a large train station and shopping area around the corner. About 20 min from Reeperbahn, and 30 mins from Rathausen, etc. Would definately go here again, if ever travel back to Hamburg.

“Superb value for money”

The hotel was really clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly, efficient and spoke perfect English. Rooms were good and the location was really handy for Altona train station and being able to get around Hamburg. Brilliant value for money. Would definitely stay again.

“Excellent value”

The Meininger is excellent value for money. It is clean, safe, well-run and very convenient for getting about in Hamburg. The Altona railway station and shopping complex is just a five minute walk away and from there it is possible to reach any part of the city quickly. I was particularly impressed by the quality of service offered by the reception staff and by their friendliness. They all spoke excellent English too. I will definitely return here on my next visit to Hamburg.

“This hostel is almost a hotel”

Pretty nice, the breakfast was good (although it didn't seem that you actually had to pay for it). Pretty easy location to get anywhere, although sort of out of the city center

“Functional”

This hotel/hostel was functional and reasonably priced. I booked a hotel room, but was a bit nervous about how they separated hotel rooms from hostel rooms. They are one in the same...you just either book it for yourself or you book it as a hostel room to share. My room was HUGE (beds for 8), two bathrooms - it was a shame I was only one person. Bathroom was clean and modern. Room was fairly clean with very basic furnishings, lamps, tiny little table. Free WiFi in lobby - very nice signal. Very reasonable price if you want WiFi in room - also good signal. Breakfast buffet, very basic, but very reasonably priced. Late check out for 5 Euro! Staff very helpful. A youthful environment. Would be good for families to stay. Hallways/carpeting to rooms could use some cleaning/deodorizing. Elevator very slow...take the stairs! Very close to train station.

“A nice clean hotel shame location isn't so good”

This a pleasant enough hotel, which is well maintained and certainly more youth oriented. Unfortunately for decent bars/places to eat it meant a twenty minute walk. A good hotel choice if you happy with this - otherwise maybe look elsewhere. To be fair, when I booked this was one of the cheapest hotels in the city.

“This is a Hostel - not a 3 star hotel - Don't stay here if you don't have children with you”

This Hotel is mainly a Hostel for teenage students (in large numbers) and who you have to contend with when getting your breakfast and catching the grossly inadequate lift. A great place for school trips and family holidays but NOT a 3 STAR HOTEL. Only one towel each (no hand towels), no frig, no glasses and no hairdryer (although with a refundable deposit this was available). Staff were good and hotel clean.
