Friendly staff who go the extra mile

Posted May 6, 2015
Cons: New carpets furnishings etc
Location: Right in the heart of the city.
Dated hotel but staff service made up lack of modernity. Would stay again because of the service.

Good condition, but poor condition

Posted May 5, 2015
Pros: location, free parking
Cons: facility, need more maintenance
Location: right in CBD, close casino, restaurants
It is a very old hotel. It is right in CBD, good location. It has strong oak smell(if it is), unless you like it. I hated it, anyway. A pub is right down in ground floor, very noisy. The whole room has only one light working, except the bathroom light. TV can only show 5 or 6 channels. Ventilation and fridge are very noisy as well.

Great bed, great staff, the rest very poor

Posted Apr 17, 2015
Pros: Great staff though, friendly and helpful. Fantastic bed.
Location: Great central location.
Could be a great character hotel, but I would not recommend it right now. Not nearly clean enough (although not horrid), burnt out lights, phone didn't work, Internet didn't work, uncomfortable furniture (what little there was). Missing ceiling panel in the closet allowed you to see into the floor above! Massive room almost devoid of furniture ... felt weird actually.

Very similar to Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Posted Apr 6, 2015
Pros: The character
Cons: Wash the coffee cups properly, clean the windows, remove the cobwebs, remove the crumbs from the previous tenants biscuits on the couch.
Location: Lots on restaurants and noisy pubs
Cobwebs, dust, dated, majestic, character - just like the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Nice hotel downtown

Posted Apr 3, 2015
Room was very nice and clean, easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Next to a busy street you could hear traffic and pedestrians, but not horrible. Parking was a challenge. Staff is friendly, but was frustrated with incorrect directions to a laundromat that was already closed for the day.

Hamilton City Oaks is definitely a beautiful historic building and with that you have to accept that the water takes a while to come hot in the shower and it's all a wee bit tired. But it has character and is very comfortable. Fantastic staff and convenient location.

Great Hamilton hotel

Posted Mar 28, 2015
Pros: Clean, free wi-fi (though marginal), excellent location, helpful, friendly hotel staff.
Cons: More electrical outlets near the desk. Better wi-fi reception.
Location: Excellent location with many good restaurants nearby.
This hotel is well located on the main street of Hamilton, and is near several excellent restaurants. The room was clean, nicely appointed, and the staff was very helpful. Wi-fi service was marginal (only one to two bars) and there were not enough outlets in the room near the desk. The price was extremely reasonable.

The whole place needs a renovation

Posted Mar 17, 2015
Pros: All interactions with staff were pleasant
Cons: Cleaniness in general, or maybe a complete renovation of the place.
Location: There is plenty of options for food - however if you want to sleep before 3am you may look for a hotel that isn't ont he main strip as it's very noisy
My overall experience with staff was positive, however my room experience wasn't good. The room despite having the aircon on high and a fan in the room was ridiculously hot and this made it hard to enjoy my sleep. The shower had a bad smell (I assume from an unclean drain because when the water was on the smell would disappear, the heat in the room didn't help) and there was no fan to remove the steam. The walls in the shower were so mouldy that I was scared to touch them. The sheets on the bed, although seemed clean had a wear sandy feeling on them - and the towels were slightly stained.

Excellent location and feels like a heritage hotel

Posted Mar 15, 2015
Pros: EXCELLENT LOCATION AND FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE
Cons: Just maintain the great service.
Location: Hotel is in the heart of down town.
Hamilton City Oaks also known as Grand Hotel has been the BEST hotel I stayed in New Zealand. I extended my stay from 3 nights to 5 nights. I have no doubt that this has been the beast hotel during my two-and-half weeks first time ever trip to New Zealand. The rooms were spacious with very high ceilings that gives the feel of the vintage heritage hotel. The location is in the heart of down town which is great happening place. Most importantly, the Management and the Staff always have a smile and are looking for opportunities to excel and provide Excellent Customer Service. I plan to return to this hotel again.
