Value for moneyPosted Dec 5, 2014 on Hotels.com
Lovely location, rooms outdated but reasonable. Staff friendly and attentive. Dinner menu expensive for quality of food. Lounge had a cosy atmospher. Overall for the price paid was good value for money.

Lovely outside, formulaic inside.Posted May 12, 2014
Pros: Beautiful setting
Cons: Soundproofing would be nice. Conversations in the hallways might as well be in your room. Also the shower is not made for an adult sized human.
The ground and area are lovely, and there is real character in the main rooms. But this is a big hotel, usually hosting weddings and events that suit the grounds. And the walls are paper thin. So don't expect much privacy or quiet. The rooms are rather small and have a "Travel Lodge" feel. Again, nothing wrong with that, but the room and the setting are a poor match. In the end, a B&B in a scenic part of the forest would have offered a bigger room and a nicer setting. This isn't a romantic hotel - its an overnight venue and the alternative to B&Bs being booked solid. So for what it is, its fine. But if you want a quiet and intimate getaway, there are plenty of options elsewhere and much smaller to boot. Oh, and unless you are about as tall as Elmo, you'll find the shower hilariously cramped. I'd recommend it if you are looking for an adequate stay in a lovely location. If you set your heights just a touch higher, try the local B&B listings - they're more appropriate for the character of the area.

Overpriced small rooms but nice setting.Posted May 11, 2014
Room was very small. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. The shower head was so low that I had to kneel down to wash my hair. Service was not great. Coffee was cold at breakfast. There was a Wedding the Saturday and Sunday when we were there. The setting is nice and if the price had been half to two thirds then we would have been ok with it.

A nice place to stay.Posted Aug 19, 2013
Pros: The vergetarian main course was delicious
Cons: The lack of space in the room
Location: Lovely setting in the New Forest, just off (but out of sight of) the motorway.
A charming hotel with very polite and helpful staff, easily accessible from Southamption and set in the New Forest. Food in the restaurant was very good. Downsides - room was a little on the pokey side, and given the age of the building it wasn't surprising that the floorboards were a little creaky and the walls a little thin. Room service menu only covered snacks rather than meals, but these were very minor criticisms

More suited to a couple than a familyPosted Aug 6, 2012
Pros: Location, character of this 300+ year old hotel
Cons: Not easy to find but probably a satnav would have helped
Location: Huge gardens and surrounding grounds close to Southampton
We arrived on the Thursday afternoon for a wedding on the Friday. We stayed until the Saturday. We were allocated a ground floor room but on the grounds of safety and possible late night noise the following evening, we asked to be moved to an upper floor and this was arranged without a problem. This new room had two double beds and a sitting area and was very pleasant. The two breakfasts we had were good and the wedding evening meal very good, Service and the pleasantness of staff was of a high standard and could not be faulted. All in all a very pleasing experience if a little expensive.

Perfect Location for a weddingPosted Aug 6, 2012
Stayed at the Bartley Lodge for a wedding. Our room was on the ground floor as was actually a disabled room; but this meant that we had a really large bathroom with a seperate shower and bath- so we were pleased.

WeddingPosted Jun 17, 2012
Pros: Lovely rooms and swimming pool.
An excellent time was had by all as it was my niece's wedding. Due to the lengthy time we had to wait from arriving at the hotel before the wedding breakfast I think some nibbles could have been handed around with the welcoming pimms!

Fantastic hotelPosted Feb 17, 2012
Pros: The history is fantastic. The hotel is really interesting above anything else.
Cons: Can't think of anything.
Location: Absolutely beautiful. There's even wild ponies in the field behind it.
This place is incredible. The grounds are beautiful, rooms extremely comfortable, service fantastic, food is delicious. I can't recommend this place enough!
