Country house hotel in beautiful surroundings
Posted Jan 19, 2013
Pros: The hotel setting, individuality, tranquility and space
Cons: Meal prices; no marmalade for breakfast!
Location: In the countryside within easy reach of Basingstoke.
As a female business traveller this was a good choice. Spacious, comfortable, well equipped rooms and quiet lounges meant it was possible to work in the evening in comfort. The main building and courtyard rooms are set in beautiful surroundings. All staff were very friendly and helpful. I felt the restaurant menu was overpriced for most business travellers and the bar meals although well cooked were uninspiring and the majority involved chips! I would not have had breakfast at £22.50 if it hadn't been included as I have encountered very similar choices at 4* hotels at a fraction of the price. Potential guests need to be aware that the rooms are set away from the main building meaning a walk outside to the bar/restaurant etc. (Umbrellas are provided!) I would have liked to see Fair trade beverages in the rooms. I would stay again but would look for 'offers' as apart from the beautiful setting I have had similar hotel experiences at lower prices.

Very helpful staff. excellent meal via room service. very comfortable room. delightful gardens - took advantage of the sunshine to jog around the grounds. Made an error in booking which the staff rectified, saving me a lot of trouble for which I was very grateful.

Close to final location

Stayed here on a business trip and the location was perfect for my needs. The hotel price was very very reasonable for the quality and service of the hotel. Set in splendid countryside I could not really fault the place except to say the main hotel block is separate from the the rooms and you have a short walk for breakfast and dinner which is ok if the whether is ok. Definitely reccomend but try to get it with breakfast included otherwise it will cost you.

It was nice, but not sure it was value for money..

The hotel is in a lovely grounds, the staff were attentive, and the rooms are the converted stable block with no covered walkway to the main hotel building. The rooms are nicely appointed, although the quilt was winter tog rating so it was quickly discarded for the empty duvet cover! Sunday breakfast began at 07:30 and we needed to be out prompt by 08:00, so I was dissapointed to see that the small buffett wasn't ready, however they immediately took our hot food order and it was delived within minutes. The food was excellent, tasty and nicely presented. The restaurant staff were effecient and unobtrusive. We liked the hotel, but would probably not choose to go back as we didn't feel it was value for money at the rate we brought it at.

Bast in Basingstoke

This hotel is the best among all in Basingstoke area. As a frenquent traveller to this area, I have stayed in about six others in the area and this one has the best in-room facility and surrounding views. If you got a car, the 10 minute driving distance to the town is also not bad at all with it's quite country settings. Highly recommended!
