Old thorns was okay. I had always heard good reviews however was slightly disappointed. I felt it was a hotel with some spa facilities instead of a dedicated spa. The food was really average I was not impressed at all, the service at dinner was so poor we only had water after 40 minutes. Breakfast was nice, however the buffet was very dirty with hairs on the side etc. You do not get robes and slippers with the room it’s £20pp to rent. For me at a spa I would expect these included. The gym was slightly outdated with old dumbbells etc. the pool was nice however, busy. The golf course looked great this looked like a good one day event. Otties was also enjoyable. The room was adequate. There was no minibar, toilet brush, toiletries, the mattress wasn’t amazing and the tv was old.

Great room- big and spacious. We had a two bed apartment. Comfy beds, lovely showers. Nice view over golf course. Good pub grub in sports bar, and tasty cocktails in the cocktail bar. However, there was a lot of noise so we didn’t sleep well. The room wasn’t well sound insulated which meant we could hear all the scrapings of chairs moving in the room above. Really clearly!! Perhaps add carpet or those soft stickers on the bottom of the chairs. Also a lot of drunk people shouting outside the room after midnight. Perhaps guests from the wedding which was on. Check in is at 4pm. We dropped bags at the room and went straight for a swim with the children, arriving at 4:40pm. We were given towels etc but not warned the family swim time ended at 5pm, so we had the grand totally of 15 mins in the pool before we were told the children had to leave. Given check in isn’t until 4pm you really should extend the family swim time!! This was a great shame and somewhat ruined the kids evening!

The facilities and service/staff could not be faulted we had a fantastic stay. For a big venue disabled parking wasn’t great. Limited number of places and not very big spaces for wheelchairs. The biggest plus to our booking was Expedia offered a cancellation option up to the day of booking. The venue wanted payment up front when we booked several months before our stay and no refunds if you needed to cancel they also charged more booking directly. Expedia offered us an excellent option to book in advance.

We stayed in an apartment which was excellent - clean, modern great shower comfortable beds and a fabulous view over the golf course. We enjoyed the swimming pool, jacuzzi & hot beds, except the smell in the ladies changing rooms of some sort of chemical was very strong & off putting. Dining at the Kings restaurant was a big mistake - we chose to eat duck but the vegetables (green beans & tenderstem broccoli ) were rock hard - they must have been blanched only. Also the food was lukewarm. We told the assistant manager & they took our plates away to bring them back 10 mins later with little change to the vegetables - still rock hard. We asked for them to be cooked but then waited 20 mins which meant what food we had was cold. A very poor experience to what was otherwise a lovely stay.

Better for Leisure than Business Stay
Very Large Site For Business travellers beware - the wi fi does not cover all the hotel rooms. The car park is vast so it could be quite a distance to the hotel if you need to ferry items back and forth. Buffet Breakfast - good Restaurant was shut as hotel occupancy was down but bar food was adequate.

On the description of the pods, it never stated it was a shared bathroom quite a walk away from the pod. The bathroom are supposedly dedicated to pod users only, but golfers also use it, so not always too clean. We would never have booked this if we understood that was the case. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good. A lovely resort overall.

I think the cut off times for ordering food and drinks, particularly for hotel residents could be improved upon. Travelling from Goodwood, we only just made an evening dinner order in the Sports Bar, and at 8:45pm that was met with considerable resistance. Last orders was early for a sports bar with a weekend of sport to watch.

Hote great - pods not so much!
Just a quick overnight trip, playing golf nearby early the next day. Perfectly comfortable, but I upgraded from my original choice of a pod to a hotel room because a) the pods were unbearably hot with poor ventilation after a very hot sunny day, and b) the communal washroom/showers are fifty yards away, too far to go in the middle of the night for someone who gets up frequently.

Its nice, just not for us non-golfers
Its slightly quirky and eclectic but the hotel is geared to keeping the golfers happy. Should you decide to have a romantic overnight then make sure you make way for them (and their carts, god forbid you walk around). Not entirely sure staff know that in the hospitality business customers have paid A LOT to stay and wouldn't hurt to show a little courtesy rather than annoyance that we might have intruded their day. That being said the buildings are well maintained, the grounds a beautiful (from afar, don't tread on the course). The spa is nice (the hot bed is still out of action from 4 years back). So I wonder - is this a golf resort , wedding venue or a hotel for all? Maybe I'm aggreived that I don't play golf therefore I'm not an important guest?
