“Business Traveler review”
This review is based on the idea of business travel, which was my purpose for being in Basingstoke.
1. Red Lion is an OLD hotel (OK, this is Europe, so that is to be expected).
2. WiFi is avaiable from T-M*****. So you cannot charge directly to your room. At a solid 54Mbps, the connection is decent and tolerable. However, for an extended stay (like mine; 15 days), you will need to purchase a full 30-day WiFi pass to make it cost-effective. This can be a bit pricey (depends on your Company's travel budget)
3. Location of this hotel is both a blessing and a curse. The hotel is right where you want to be for dining, supermarket, whatever else. All kinds of places within walking distance. HOWEVER.... at night this is a curse. People coming out of nightclubs and pubs at all hours of the night [not just on Fri/Sat](till about 4am) makes it very difficult to sleep. This is also remedied or exacerbated by the following: there is NO AC (not a big deal, but as it is muggy in the hotel, you will want the window cracked (and cracked is all it does). So, at night, during the screaming and yelling outside, you can keep the window cracked so you get some fresh air, and deal with the noise, or you can close it, mildly filter the noise, and being in a stuffy, muggy room.
4. Cost. On an extended stay, staying somewhere else (H*lton) can be twice as expensive. So again, depending on your budget, that may be a better option. However, most people complain about the other hotels being remote.
