“Very disappointing & in need of some big changes”

The RelaxInnz Ashby's Boutique Guest House looks great from the profile, and it's had some mixed reviews, but we thought we'd give it a try as the most recent ones were good, and it's recently had some refurbishment. I don't have enough room here for everything, so in no particular order: Hotel was locked at 5pm when we arrived and we had to wait outside in dark and rain for somebody to come round to let us in from a different location. No staff present in the hotel at night. Room was very dirty with horrible white stains on the bed throw and bedroom & bathroom floor covered in fluff & body hair. Very good shower. Room didn't get made up one day. Bar & Restaurant closed on Mondays, but was never open any other night either when we got back after 10pm. Shame as the menu looked great and the whole bar area looked really well decorated, welcoming & cosy. Parking is very difficult with free pass from hotel, pay & display right outside was £10 per day if you can't find a streetside space. Breakfast was actually very good, but only on until 9am so we only made it one day. Manager (I think) called Chris was very helpful and friendly but the cleaning staff really let him down. The location is great for Southsea, Old Portsmouth, the seafront, and shops, bars & restaurants. Overall, great location and one of the cheaper hotels in the area, but really needs more effort put in and the dirtiness of the rooms would certainly be the thing that sticks in my mind. Stay here at your own risk!
