Useful for overnight pre-cruisePosted Nov 11, 2014
Pros: It wasn't expensive and was available when the hotels nearer the port were fully booked.
Cons: The rooms need a bit of TLC. It would be good not to leave a great strip of veneer that had been stripped off the side of the dresser leaning against.
Location: Opposite a small park and about 20 minutes walk from the National bus terminal. About 30 minutes walk to the City cruise terminal. Off licence nearby.
The hotel is a bit worn and shabby, but okay if all you want is an overnight stay before cruising from Southampton. Our double room was tiny and cramped. The bed was comfortable. The view from our room was bricks and concrete and office windows. You can't open the windows properly and there are net curtains that you can't open, so you can't tell if it is raining outside until you go down to the lobby. Walking to the City Terminal would be possible. A taxi might cost you up to a tenner because they charge whilst stuck in the traffic queues trying to get to Ikea, which they built in a silly place.Walking to the places where there is food and drink is easily possible. Frankie and Benny's is not too far. This hotel has seen much better days.

Quite disappointing stay.Posted Sep 21, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Cons: As above, necessary repairs need to be made, and provision for heating and cooling.
Location: Quite a good location close to a pleasant park and with easy access to town, although a bit creepy at night when shops were shut.
The room, though clean, was overheated (no aircon), there were two permanently dripping taps and some tiles missing in the bathroom, and there was a great deal of noise from below (people endlessly shouting, loud music, etc.). The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was very good, but I wouldn't stay at this hotel again, or recommend it to others. Needs a total overhaul of the bathroom at least.

Disappointing.Posted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: Staff were friendly
Cons: Updating needed. Broken bricks in the front need fixing
Location: Location was excellent, close to shops etc
The hotel is nothing like it is in pictures. The hotel is dated and in need of updating. The shower had little water coming out and the drain was blocked.

Good old-fashioned service, convenient locationPosted Jul 13, 2014
Pros: Clean, comfortable, pleasant staff, good location
Location: 5-10 minutes walk across a park to the centre of town
We had arrived at Gatwick and drove down to Southampton in the evening, feeling very tired when we arrived. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, and we were pleased to find the room attractively and comfortably furnished in an old-fashioned sort of way. There is no on-site parking, but there is a municipal fee-paying carpark just behind the hotel. We had one breakfast and one dinner at the hotel, and enjoyed the food. We had two nights at this hotel and would definitely recommend it.

Central hotel, convenient for a night out in town.Posted Jul 7, 2014
Pros: Convenience,location,ease of access.
Cons: For the price, everything was adequate.
Location: As mentioned above.
A clean room, good size, good functioning bathroom, tea and coffee facilities. Exactly as described. I did not use the leisure facilities.

Shabby chic without the chic!Posted May 27, 2014
Pros: The staff
Cons: The hotel needs money spent on it from top to bottom.
VERY tired looking hotel. Room smelt of damp. Threadbare carpets, ceiling wallpaper in room falling off and black from previous water leak, dirty door to balcony. All doors appear to slam shut and not damped, hence woken several times in the night. The staff were very helpful land friendly. No problem with booking through Expedia, I guess the price reflects the poor condition of the hotel but staying again at this hotel would absolutely be a last resort for me.

Pros: zeer goede locatie. centraal gelegen
Cons: hotel is aan een flinke renovatie toe.
A bit datedPosted Oct 14, 2013
Location: It's literally a 2 minute walk from the guildhall.
The hotel staff were lovely, but the hotel itself was very dated. Not only in the decoration but also the building itself. Everything is slightly off, with the bathroom door barely closing and needing a good push together it to even nearly close. The fire alarm went off at 5:30am which admittedly wasn't a fault of the hotel but from then on all I could hear was the floor boards creaking from the floors above. And I'm not talking a slight creek hear and there. it was very loud on literally every board which made it very hard to sleep. The best solution would be to strip this place bare and start over!

Renovated but still looks tiredPosted Sep 19, 2013
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Very hard given the age of the building
Location: City centre hotel
Old fashioned hotel and although rooms have been renovated, not the freshness of a Premier Inn for example. Staff very friendly and helpful and evening dinner sensible prices and good choice.
