“Satisfied in the old quarter”

We purposely avoided the Metropole, chosing instead to stay in the old section in more of a back street, well-thought of small hotel, more like in Paris. We were absolutely pleased with the hotel and staff. Charming people who were helpful in all respects. Comfortably sized room...we had the junior suites for a week. Also, please consider taking the advice of the staff in all things: restaurants, taxis, and private tours. They are well set up with solid services. Our only exception was the Halong Bay cruise, where we selected Grandeur Cruises and the Jasmine junk, where we were also thrilled during our 3 day, 2 night cruise. Hanoi...just suited our needs nicely, as did the Hanoi Calypso. We were on a buying trip, so perhaps our needs were a little different than others.

“Great Hotel-for the price”

When you first pull up to the hotel on the dark narrow street you may wonder “what have I gotten myself into”. Just remember you are staying in the old quarter of Hanoi where all of the shopping and restaurants are. Once inside this tall narrow hotel you will meet a very helpful and competent English speaking staff (a big plus in Hanoi). They went out of their way to help us with everything. You can book a larger hotel, but for the price this one is great. The hotel is built on a narrow lot and is eight stories tall, typical of many of the hotels in the area and reminds you of the old European Inns. The staff arranged our airport transfers and booked us a one day tour to Ha long bay. If you do decide to take a taxi from the airport, open the hotel website, copy and paste the name and address into a translating website and convert the English address to Vietnamese and make a copy to show to your taxi driver. It is located a few blocks from the Ho Chi Minh Tomb and the military museums. The complimentary breakfast is pleasant and adequate (omelets, fruit, yogurt, rolls). One warning, no matter where you stay, you will not believe the Hanoi traffic. We have traveled all over the world and have never seen traffic like this. A million small motor cycles driving down the wrong way and taxis u-turning in traffic to catch a missed stop and no one runs in to anyone!!! Not for the faint of heart.

“An oasis of calm”

Hanoi is noisy and chaotic; just crossing the street can be an adventure. This hotel is an mini-oasis in the midst of bustle and insanity. My only complaint was the room's water pressure-- but that may be due to Hanoi's inadequate infrastructure, not anything Calypso can fix. The staff was superb: helpful, friendly, and ready to lend a hand 24/7. I highly recommend this place.

“Little Delight in Hanoi”

I booked this hotel based on recommendations on Trip Advisor and I was not disappointed. Kicking off with a welcome drink on arrival and a good overview of Hanoi and our location was a brilliant start. The staff were amazing and I'm sure it's because of them that our stay in Hanoi was one of the highlights of Vietnam for us... we are still talking about the staff there and comparing them to other hotel staff in Vietnam (they were second to none). They were always very helpful and friendly. They booked all our day trips, massages and train tickets. On return from a trip to Ha Long they gave us a room to shower and freshen up in before we took the late train South. The breakfast was delicious. Room was quiet and spacious, it didn't really have a window with a view, but we didn't notice it. The location is brilliant in the Old Quarter - which in itself is a vibrant and buzzing little area. The massage place across the road that Calypso recommended was fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. I look forward to returning there myself one day.
