“Hanoi's best 5 star hotel”

Beautiful colonial style 5 star hotel very well located. Stayed at Club Opera Wing room. Club benefits are good with late check out till 4pm, free IPad rental in lounge, free wifi throughout hotel and the usual lounge perks. Visited the West Lake Intercontinental for drinks and as comparison( didn't see the rooms). Metropole has better city centre location, better ambient and given it's not next to a lake you don't get insects and Mosquitoss as with the Interconti.

“I would not stay elsewhere in Hanoi...”

I must say the hotel was great. I would like to return to Hanoi just to stay at the hotel again. I haven't enjoyed a hotel stay so much in a while! Few hotels have this quality of service.

Dining

The Sunday Brunch at the Metropole is very good. This is a must if you are there on a Sunday. I would consider going back to the hotel just to have more of their outstanding food!

“World class hotel in exotic asian location”

Stayed 3 nights at the Sofitel Legend Metropole in the historic section (an indulgence - but it was our wedding anniversary). Customer service is really great, nothing is too much to ask of the staff. The swimming pool, gym and spa are outstanding and the restaurants, while a little expensive, are well worth the cost. The only complaint would be the lack of free wifi in the bedroom. You can get free internet access in the business centre and can buy a wifi card at reception, but it's a hassle. Also the 3 and 4 star hotels in Hanoi have free wifi in the bedrooms so you would expect it from a 5 star hotel - maybe if we all lobby Sofitel it will change!

Area recommendations

There are many areas to recommend in Hanoi including the Old Quarter, however you must also go to Halong Bay for a two night stayover, the views are outstanding.

“Beautiful historic hotel with superb service.”

Room was beautiful, with a comfortable bed. Pool was very nice and relaxing. Spice Garden was delicious. Most of all, the service here is excellent.

“In love with Vietnam”

Very Nice Hotel, conveniently located to center of town, was a pleasure to stay there, the SPA was very first-class…staff was very helpful and nice, the food however was mediocre even though they pride themselves on French cuisine, breakfast buffet was un-eventful, we had two rooms in the historic wing; lets just say they were historic, we booked all our tours from the hotel, very well organized, our tour guide Mr. Singh spoke very good English and went the extra mile to make our tours memorable. Such worldly knowledge and passion for his country made us fall in love with Vietnam, would recommend him over and over, definitely deserves a second visit.

“The best place to stay in Hanoi”

Check it out for yourself. 5 Star all the way apart from Breakfast. Not the standard of the hotel, go out for breakfast instead.

“ready to return again”

First time to hanoi and wanted to stay some place central and easy to get around. We chose the Sofitel based on past experiences document in the Expedia travel system. We were not disappointed from checkin to checkout it was a memorable experience. You must stay here in the hotel's historical wing (we stayed in Grand Luxury room-and it was worth it) to experience a vacation your will always remember. Get up in the morning and walk to the Hoan Kiem Lake for exercise or just breakfast- several restaurants available for Western style breakfast ($2 -3) per person. Restaurants at Hotel were ok but the Lounge Restaurant was great and reasonable priced and the best French Onion Soup I ever had

Outdoors or beach

Be sure to take the 1-2 day trip to Haolong Bay- very beautiful coast and the trip through North Vietnam to the coast gives you a look at how the majority of Vietnamese people live.

“The Best of the best”

Staying here is a trat not to be missed. Everyone on the staff is there to cater to you. They are accommodating and super efficient. The hotel management has thought of everything to make your stay wonderful. I found that they were thoughtful helpful and sooo efficient. The food service is wonderful ; the atmosphere of the lounges and restaurants makwes each a special place.

District 1 because thatsa where most of the restaurants and shopping is as well as many of the special sites in the city

Dining in Hanoi is a treat - there are loads of restaurants- for a New Yorker the prices were unbelievablky cheap as well.

“So Fit For A King !”

Fab hotel, best hotel service I have experienced in Vietnam. Location is perfect for the Old Quarter, close to museums, lakes, old parts of town etc. Food is high quality but a little expensive for Ha Noi . Pool area is very well organized and is a beautiful scene in the evening. All the staff are well trained with attention to detail and courteous, will help you with any trips or train tickets. Will return in 2010 for sure !
