The Artist's Loft at La Maison D'Art has enough room for 4 or 5 people and two bathrooms. It's clean and bright, with large windows and a seating area. Large, colorful canvases adorn the walls. There's a lovely bar area, with a small fridge, four-burner stovetop and microwave, and four stools. A coffee maker -- and tea and coffee with sugar -- are provided. There's a lovely garden downstairs for use by guests, and some weekends they have a fun market with food, candles, clothing, jewelry, arts and crafts, body butters. Many good restaurants are nearby. I especially recommend Vinateria, within walking distance, and Red Rooster...their jazz brunch upstairs or gospel brunch downstairs at Ginny's Supper Club are terrific. Although the largest room, the Artist's Loft IS up a few flights of stairs, so consider that if you have mobility issues. The hotel was the base for three women, who then met two others the next morning, for an unforgettable Harlem weekend attending Barnard's Athena Film Festival which celebrates women actors, directors, and producers.

This B&B is located on a quiet street in West Harlem. It is conveniently very close to the B/C line subway. Our room was very pleasant and comfortable with a queen bed, private bath, large walk-in closet and small equipped kitchen with stove, fridge, sink, coffee maker and teapot.. The breakfast was ample and suited us: yogurt, cereal/milk, bread, cream cheese, lots of fruit and fruit juices, coffee & tea. There is no elevator but our room was on the third floor and the walk up wasn't bad. We would stay here again and recommend it to others!

Rooms were basic but clean. Everything was exactly as promised. As a single woman traveling alone, I was a bit concerned about safety but always felt completely comfortable in this neighborhood. Enjoyed chatting with Michael. Yes, the subway ride in and out of midtown was about 25 minutes, but it was easy and part of the New York adventure. I'll return here next time I'm in town.

Our group of 6 really enjoyed our stay other than the cold weather. The hotel really didnt accommodate us. I suggest you bring a heater. Chris the doorman was great. James on the other hand was not very welcoming. He should smile more.

Surprisingly, one of the BEST hotel values in NYC, particularly if one seeks a bargain in Harlem. The facilities' cleanliness is only surpassed by the Guest Services staff. They're friendly, accommodating & willingness to provide excellent service is comparable to high-end 4**** Star accommodations. Of course a shared bathroom can present challenges, but if one adjusts to/or is prepared for this glitch, a guest can find themselves with more $ to spend on the real reason for visiting NYC, esp. Harlem.. to soak up the historic culture, soak up the atmosphere & partake in history..literally on a dime. I highly recommend this locale.
