Natural surroundings

Posted May 24, 2014
Pros: As above.
Cons: The bed needs up dating.
Location: We were visiting the Chelsea Flower Show. We also had a day in St Albans which is not too far away.
I love this Hotel. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept by a team of gardeners. Early one morning from our window a wild muntjack deer appeared how wonderful. We enjoyed a great breakfast served fresh and hot from the kitchen. Warm toast served by well mannered staff. We enjoyed dinner for one evening this was also very good. The only criticism I would add is that the bed was very creaky, and lumpy so did not sleep so well. Room 112.

Pretty on the outside

The hotel is located in a lovely woodland area with a number of walking trails and it is sheltered from traffic noises. It is close to a number of parks and garden centres as well as Watford and WB Studio Tour. On arrival, reception staff seemed uncomfortable with a booking for a same-sex couple. We had called ahead to ensure that they catered for milk intolerance and were assured soya would be available but reception seemed to have difficulty finding a note of the call. The next morning at breakfast we had to wait 30min for the kitchen staff to go buy a carton of soya; apart from that, the breakfast was quite tasty. The room was clean and a decent size with the usual extras like hairdryer and iron; however the mistress was uncomfortable (springs) and there was a feather pillow on the bed which set off our allergies. We couldn't get the guide feature on the tv to come up so we had to flick through channels one by one and the radiator and extractor fan made quite a bit of noise. Our door key stopped working on the night before our checkout day. If you don't have allergies or intolerance, are not gay and can easily sleep with springs poking you then it's a great place to stay.

Excellent hotel!!

Pros: The hotel overall. Everything about the hotel was excellent!
Cons: Better access to the reception but I am sure someone would have came out and helped me if I was on my own.
Location: We didn't really have time to find out what was nearby but the gardens and grounds of the hotel were magnificent and could keep you occupied.
Booked this hotel for my partners birthday for 1 night and I would highly recommend it. As I am disabled and can not climb stairs, my partner had to book us in but other than that it was fantastic. The room was spacious and clean. Room temperature was great. Need help using the remote control for the TV so we phoned reception and someone came and helped within a couple of minutes. The breakfast was great also. We are considering going back quite soon.

Lovely location and grounds.

Pros: Staff, particularly the porter and barman were excellent and made up for initial impression. Food lovely and ample.
Cons: The welcome on arrival.
Location: I was visiting the hospital in extreme stress so this was not a pleasure trip therefore this is question is not applicable.
Little disappointed with welcome at reception, having travelled over 300 miles to see my very poorly Uncle in hospital. Perhaps I am mistaking crisp efficiency for a rather cold and unfriendly welcome but a smile would have been very welcome.

Business stop over

Fantastic find. I was looking for a hotel in the area and went to various know websites for the low down before choosing. This is a clean, well kept and friendly hotel in lovely grounds. I ordered room service on the night I stayed rather than go to the restaurant which was excellent and good quality. My bedroom ( one of the garden rooms) was large and spacious with free wi fi always good to have when you are away on business. If I went back to Harlow I would definitely stay again. A lovely place and good value for money.

This hotel far exceeded my wife and my expectations. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The restaurant was delightful. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was more than you could eat. I most certainly will return.

the hotel is a beautiful building and the grounds are well kept and make a lovely setting. The main house rooms are well decorated and have charm and elegance.
