Recommended: It was a very convenient location, on the main shopping street just a very short walk from the main train station. The staff was extremely efficient and the room was old and quaint, but quite acceptable, We eventually figured out the elevators, which were quite small and somewhat tempermental. Recommended: I planned an overnight lay over in Zurich on my way back to the US as this is one of my favorite European cities. I last stayed at the Wellenburg 6 years ago and was happy to be able to find the hotel on-line. The hotel is situated in the old part of Zurich where the streets are essentially closed to motorist and are very narrow and filled with entertainment. Getting to the hotel can be tricky as I have experienced some taxi's having a difficult time but it is just a short walk from the main train station and over the river. Once you find the beginning of the old part of Zurich (look for the Starbucks) you simply walk 1/4 mile down a cobble stone road and you will see the Wellenburg in a square that often has activities. The hotel is clean but is not as comfortable as typical American hotels. There is no air conditioning in the rooms and the hotel always feels hot. Opening the windows is a must but can be loud as a result of all of the activies surrounding the hotel. Hopefully, you will be out having fun and not spending much time in the room. The hotel still has the old fashion keys with a 5 lb weight attached. The main door locks around 11. I was a bit embarrassed to ring the bell at 3am but was greeted warmly by the receptionist. Recommended: After a full day of travel crossing the Atlantic, arriving at this gem of a hotel was a breeze. The location, in the heart of the "old quarter" of Zurich, would be hard to beat. Restaurants, shops, museums, trams, and boats are right outside the door. The staff was always helpful and enthusiastic about helping. Breakfast was bountiful with an array of choices. Recommended: I have stayed at this hotel for about ten years now, and each time I return they have made improvements. The staff is friendly, speak English and the hotel is clean, safe and conveniently located close to the train station for day trips around Switzerland. The restaurants and the Kunsthaus (art museum) are within walking distance. The breakfast is satisfying and healthy. Computer with free internet is located in the lobby and is fine for short messages; otherwise, bring your own laptop and use the service in your room. I'll keep coming back. Recommended: We arrived by train, stayed two nights and left by train for St. Moritz. Central Plaza could not be more convenient in a case like this since it is across the street from the central train station. Other public transportation, bus etc., is right next door as well. The hotel is not fancy but clean, reasonably priced and the staff was more than helpful. It has a decent indoor and outdoor restaurant for light fare. Bar is smokey as lots of them in Zurich are so we avoided it. We enjoyed our stay and would use it again for a short stay. See all reviews for this hotel

Recommended: Con's: Paying $5 for 30 minutes of wireless, or $25 for 24 hours The down pillows are a joke, I had to stuff two together to get my head 1" off the bed Pro's: 5 minute walk to Zurich HB, main train station very comfortable mattresses room layout was cool, very tiny, but it all works rooms were very clean front desk staff was helpful and very nice I have stayed there twice in two weeks and I will very likely return one day.
