“Escape civilization in the most civilized way”
Experience the raw beauty of the Big Island without sacrificing anything but tawdry and annoying tourist traps. Colony I is ideal for lovers, families, large groups and any other travellers that like each other as much as they love pristine Nature. Everyone is very kind in Hawaii, so it goes without saying (but I will) the staff is very gracious. The units are a small cluster of tidy condos wedged between the ocean and a golf course - a home away from home. Privacy is key here: the design of the condos gives every room seclusion, spectacular open views and lots of space. The only drawback of this lovely hideaway is that our studio room only had a stand up shower. The spoiled brat in me requires a tub for a long, bubbly soak with an apperitif before dinner. Even so, here you will unwind to the primal, rhythmic sounds of the waves crashing, delicate yet constant floral fragance, and gentle cooling breezes. Utter calm and serenity will settle into your soul as you fully realize the complete absence of bustling selfish people surrounding you. It is critical to note that this place is isolated! Yet its ideally located to really see most of the Big Island: walk to a black sand beach to hang with hawksbill turtles, the volcano is 20 minutes by car, visit "boutique" coffee and nut farms. It is convenient to day trip to Hilo, Kailua-Kona, countless hiking trails or beaches, even summit Mauna Kea observatory (4WD only). If that's still not enough - you can't beat the price.
