Big waves on the beach at Hapuna Beach Prince!Posted Jan 14, 2015
Pros: The beach and the grounds.
Cons: More affordable breakfast.
Location: Boogie boarding, surfing at Hapuna and Mauna Kea. We were unable to find good snorkelling nearby due to rough seas.
We stayed at the Hapuna Beach Prince at the beginning of January. Positives - gorgeous grounds, very nice rooms, great service and a superb beach. The only negative for us was the price of the breakfast buffet and the evening meals. The beach is awesome for boogie boarding and surfing, but not great for little ones, as they might get swept away! Our son, who is 9 had an absolute blast and didn't want to leave....The sound of the waves is a wonderful way to go to sleep and wake up in the mornings, too! The pool and hot tub were also very nice and very clean! We aren't golfers, but the golf course there looks lovely as well. You can take a shoreline walking trail to Mauna Kea's beach as well or walk down Hapuna Beach to the south. This hotel is located about an hour from the busy Kona area. There are beaches to explore all along the coast, but most of the tours are based out of Kona, so keep that in mind.

Nice HotelPosted Jan 12, 2015
Staff was wonderful, but the hotel charges for every little thing. Wifi, fitness classes, etc. Be prepared to fork over extra money at this resort.

Good choice for beach vacation on big islandPosted Jan 11, 2015
Hotel is very impressive in size and scope, really a resort with many (if not all of the) amenities. For many people, this could be ideal, but for us, all we really wanted was a safe, clean place to stay on the beach and use as our base for exploring the island. The hotel is several hours from the Hawaii Volcanos national park, which was a bit inconvenient for us. It was actually a bit TOO fancy for our tastes which are modest (likewise, our budget). We recommend it to those with refined taste, but for those with more of a "beer budget" there may be better choices. Oh, yes, there are many cats on the premises which may choose to allow you to pet them a little!!

Family of 12 cancelled ChristmasPosted Jan 8, 2015
We all arrived on Christmas day and went straight to the pool. Later, went to the sumptuous Christmas dinner buffet in the beautiful, open air diningroom. Every breakfast was at the same location and was a dream of great food for all ages. Our family spans from age 4 to 70 and we all sat together for an hour each morning, luxuriating in the food, the setting and the very competent staff. We skipped lunch because we weren't hungry. Dinners were by the pool or at restaurants in nearby Waimea. Days were spent exploring the Big Island--volcanoes, waterfalls, snorkling or just playing in the ocean and the pool. There was a big party and dinner for Christmas Eve with fireworks. It was a dream and many wonderful memories were created.

AveragePosted Jan 6, 2015
Pros: Please see above
Cons: Please see above
Location: Good location near Wimea and Kailua Kona.
I usually stay at the sister property, Mauna Kea, but decided to give this a shot. My only observation is that the hotel seems understaffed everywhere you turn. The rooms leave a little to be desired, and at 650+ per night it would have been nice to have a minibar. As always, Prince nickel and dining me for the internet is also disappointing. The beach is nice but there is no service on the beach. And since umbrella chairs are offered there on a first come first serve basis, most families wake early, drop a towel on the umbrella chairs and disappear all day. We sat baking in the sun behind 10 empty umbrella chairs. If they had some staff on the beach coordinating this, it would have been nicer. I'd say overall average. I'm unlikely to return.

Nice Hotel, not overly crowdedPosted Jan 5, 2015
We booked a last minute trip to The Big Island in December 2014--nearly everything was sold out but we found a room that would accomodate our family of four at Hapuna Prince. We had limited expectations since it seemed that there were very few hotels that had any remaining accomodations, but we were extremely pleased with our choice. We had an ocean front room with easy access to the beach (very lovely) and a beautiful view. The rooms were VERY QUIET and clean...no stomping or door slamming heard! The view from the lobby is gorgeous and the beach is the best! Will go back!

Nice hotel on the beachPosted Jan 4, 2015
Great service, food was terrible. Seventies style buffet and everything including the bar closes by 9. Sister property had extremely better food.

A special placePosted Dec 30, 2014
Pros: The hotel & grounds are well kept & beautiful. It never feels crowded or noisy. The staff are wonderful, beach awesome, and food very good.
Cons: Have more to do in the evening. Once it gets dark the pool, business/computer room, and fitness facilities all close so I get up & go to bed early.
Location: Great location - 40 min. from airport, handy to Kawaihae, Hawi, Waimea for sightseeing, various eating options and shopping. Kings & Queen's shops too
This is a lovely place. From arrival in the lobby you are greeted with fresh soft breezes and beautiful views of the ocean & beach as well as a cool cloth and tropical juice. The hotel & grounds are well kept & comfortable, & never seem crowded. The staff are warm & welcoming & obviously enjoy working together. There is little turnover as I see the same faces time after time & they remember me too. Hapuna beach is long & beautiful with soft firm sand, good snorkelling at both ends of beach and from a small rocky cove just north of the main beach with steps down to a small sandy beach. There are always enough lounge chairs at pool & beach. I walk beach each day before breakfast for exercise and often again before sunset. (There are some spectacular sunsets too.) Some days the surf is gentle, on others the body boarders love it. There are great locals who regularly walk the beach to keep it clean - they should be commended. (Mike and Tom over the years have done a thoroughly impressive job here.) I've never seen a cleaner beach anywhere. If you want a roaring night life you'll be disappointed but in every other way it is spectacular--classy, friendly, comfortable and peaceful. The food is also very good, from breakfast buffet, to evening restaurants to café to pool bar. You need a rental car to get around on the island but the hotel is in a great location to get to so many interesting things to do and see plus other eating options. I can't imagine a better place to vacation.

Pros: Room view and proximity to the beach.
Cons: The bed and food
Location: See above
Mostly good food could be more inclusive of food restrictions, not a lot of variety and expensive, very few lighter choices at less cost. Breakfast buffett the same lots ofvariety but not for people with food sensitivities. Food should be marked with food allergens. Room was nice andvery clean bed was too soft and pillows too hard my neck and back are still trying to recover. Employees are very friendly and helpful for the most part. Not a lot to do close by except go to other resorts. Not too far from some nice beaches. Hotel beach very nice but hotel became very noisey when a convention arrived who dominatedtbe pool and hot tub playing loud music and being loud.

Excellent place to stay...only stayed one night but front desk upgraded me to premium ocean view room (with out asking) thru Epedia elite. Hapuna beach is a great sand beach with coral for snorkeling at either end and a trail to hike to Mauna Kea beach... I snorkeled the whole way about 1.5 miles. Both beaches not crowded and an awesome stress free place to vacation away from the city.
