Nice HotelPosted May 13, 2015
Pros: nice clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff
Location: Easy access to and from the airport, restaurant in motel, restaurant / bar around the corner
We had a room facing the ocean and could watch the fish in the pond from our balcony. We could also watch the cruise ships come and go in the harbour. We rented a car and did a lot of sightseeing

Close to Ken's Pancakes and the airport. Has a beautiful garden and koi pond. Unfortunately it hasn't kept up with its heyday. We like supporting a privately owned hotel

Adequate and cleanPosted May 5, 2015
The accommodations were dated but very clean and maintained. Spent two nights. Close access to the airport served my travel plans - which entailed dropping off luggage and a place to sleep between driving down the coast for site seeing. The restaurant offered a good breakfast, but service was slightly slow - however forgiving as one of the wait staff gave excellent site-seeing tips. Cost was a little high for the accommodations, but I chalked that up to being in Hawaii.

Garden setting near Hilo airportPosted May 5, 2015
Pros: The ambiance of the section we were in; the size and comfort of the room; the food in the restaurant.
Cons: We did notice noise carrying from the next room on one occasion.
Location: It is approximately a 30 to 45 minute drive to Volcanoes National Park and a 5 minute drive to the appealing shops and restaurants of downtown Hilo.
My husband and I spent spent 6 nights in a room in one of the single storey sections of the hotel, facing a swimming pool surrounded by a lovely tree fern perimeter. The layout was that of a courtyard and we were glad we had got a room in this section (there is also a multi-storey section that, at least on the outside, looks much less inviting). The airport is very close by and when the planes land or take off, there is no question they are noisy. But they stop flying early enough not to disrupt one's sleep. A choice of 3 breakfast meals in the adjoining restaurant was included with our room; the two we tried were very good and filling. The room was sufficiently large, comfortable and clean. Because we had openable windows on two sides of the room and ceiling fans, we did not even have to use the air conditioner. Although there is free parking in several on-street and behind-the-hotel areas, during dinner hours it did get rather full. Still, we always got a spot. The hotel was very convenient for getting onto the highway to go to Volcanoes National Park and for going into downtown Hilo. There is also a little museum inside the hotel; although we did not visit it, we noticed that several guests did, and it looked interesting through the door.

Gutes Preis-/LeistungsverhältnisPosted May 2, 2015

Nice tropical hotelPosted Apr 29, 2015
Pros: It is unique and pleasant.
Cons: Lighting in the rooms.
Old fashend hotel with nice deep swimming pool close to park and ocean. Rooms are modest but functional and very clean. Food in the restaurant is good. Atmosphere is typical Hawaiian, service is somewhat slow but with great smile. Lobby is open airy and welcoming. This place has a lot of charm.

Nice place for the price.Posted Apr 21, 2015
Pros: Hawaiian owned. Convenient location. Price was right.
Cons: Several common areas had either roof edges that leaked water during storms. The white towels rolled up along these areas wasn't very attractive.
Location: Older downtown with fun shops and a local marketplace with fresh produce. Botanical Garden (wonderful!!) just north of Hilo a few miles. Do not miss.
A step back in time with modern conveniences. This is one of only handful of hotels owned by native Hawaiians. They are proud of their hotel in Hilo. It is an older property but our room was clean and comfortable. Although we didn't have time to swim in the pool, that area was well-kept and the water crystal clear to the bottom. It was conveniently located to main arteries leading to the older downtown and city park areas, the newer part of town and very close to the airport. Our first evening we encountered many flights coming in close proximity to the hotel but they induced chuckles more than anything. By shutting our louvered windows and turning on the A/C we muffled out most of the air noise that evening. We had a room (per my request) that faced the koi pond. It wasn't particularly beautiful but was better than looking out at a parking lot. It was a good indicator of how hard it was raining without leaving the room first.
