“good budget hotel”

Hotel is located near public dock. The closest sandy beach is about a mile away. There are quite a few restaurants located within walking distance of the hotel., We had the breakfast included option which was nice despite having only 3 options. Overall the hotel is good for anyone on a budget. Do not expect the the 4 seasons at motel 6 prices and you will be satisfied. Our room overloooked the pool area and was close to the road so there was quite as bit of traffic noise. I will stay here again if in Kona. There is a $5 per day parking fee and parking slots are narrow and limited.

“Great Location in Kailua-Kona Town”

Good quality hotel right in the heart of Kailua-Kona town. Close to restaurants, beach, museums, sightseeing and shopping. Good step-off point for island tours, snorkel and fishing tours from the pier, and just walking around. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is an older hotel, but the grounds and rooms are well maintained. Many rooms have ocean views and the air conditioning is included. I was surprised that there is a charge for parking.

Area recommendations
The "Big Island" is a beautiful place and a tour around the island is worth it. The beaches along the Kohala coast are very nice and there is a little beach along side the pier within walking distance that is very calm and good for swimming and sun bathing.

“Fine for budget travelers”

This is a quite adequate hotel if you're on a budget and plan to use your hotel merely as a base for doing other things, as we did. The rooms were clean, shower hot, bed comfortable. A/C was okay, but noisy.

“Quite pleasant hotel experience for budget price”

-This stay was just pleasant experience. The hotel has an interesting location with easy walk to many anearby attractions, tourist stores and eating places, but also close to services and stores that the permanent population often use, on the north side of town. That gave us a warm feeling of being a bit integrated with the real town life - instead of living in an artificial or theatric surroundings - which may happen in some resorts. Yet, the hotel faciliy is surprisingly well shielded from extrenal tourist noise. Rooms and grounds were very clean and well kept. For best room comfort, just remember to select low speed on the A/C electronics; that makes the room both nicely cool and relatively quiet Our balcony view included both the lush and fine trimmed hotel garden plus some of the bay and boats. But you also see some back sides of stores with less artistic impression. Nevertheless, in a trip to Hawaiii, there is so mych more to do than staying in the room ! The included breakfast was another pearl. You get a closeup view of the bay full of boats in morning activities, through a wide open building aperture. Add to this a pretty tune by a lady, her soft pling-plong ukulele song, plus a warm and tasty good size food order, and this breakfast goes to the Pleasamt Memories Folder. We had good use ofhe wireless internet connection. with a reasonable weekly price. It was typically donloading at 1.7 MB/s fine for video streaming. A GOOD PICK

Area recommendations
Enjoy all the classic tourist town areas - but you must also experience the surroundings. Stroll around in the modern International Market ,load up on take-home deals, and eat a real Island lunch there. Get on a genuine Kona coffee plantation tour southover on 11, and sampling the good stuff. Grab a wide variety and plenty of fresh fruit at the the city farm market and eat an all-fruit lunch at the beach to keep your body in shape. Stroll around at the old airport converted to park. Get the 10 AM tour of natural energy and biomarine lab near the airport. Discover life in tidepools just a bit nort. Eat fresh fish in the Harbor House. Get a near view of the volcanos in south. - And if that isnt enuf you can also pay all sorts of money for things to do, but the simple things can sometimes be the best memories.

“Superb value and location”

This hotel is somewhat dated but except for folks who expect Four Seasons decor at rock bottom prices this should be overlooked. The rooms are functional and clean. Breakfast which I included in my rate is satisfactory and has a superb ocean view. The pool is lovely. The location is the best in Kailu-Kona. When I stay in Kona I will stay here.

“Awesome hotel for the money!”

After reading some of the reviews, my bf and I thought we were going to check into a roach motel. Turns out that the Kona Seaside Hotel is the furthest thing from a roach motel. It's in the best location possible for Kona with shops all around and Walmart just about 7 mins away (in case you forgot to pack something). Turtle beach, Honaunau bay, coffee plantations, snorkel cruises, manta ray night snorkeling are just some of the locations within 10-15 minutes of the hotel. The hotel was clean and very airy with the open lobby and big windows all around. The staff was super pleasant, nice and helpful. The room itself was not a 5 star Hilton room, but then again you're not paying $400 a night either. It's clean, which was the biggest thing for me. Each room has it's own air conditioner and ceiling fan, mini fridge, TV and coffee maker. We weren't planning on staying in our room much since it is Hawaii afterall so the room was perfect for us. Plus, they have a restaurant onsite (Tante's) where the food is good and the staff is very friendly! The only thing that wasn't cool about the hotel is that they charge $5/day for parking but I guess that's still better than the $15/day most of the other hotels charge. All in all, the Kona Seaside Hotel is a great hotel for the price and I would definitely stay here again.

“Kona Ono!”

WOW! Surprised at the low ratings this place seems to receive. Guess that's what happens when you expect the "Ritz" at "Red Roof" prices. Newbies in Paradise.....YIKES! This property is dated; Yes, but absolutely spotless in every way!! I do not need fru-fru at $400 plus a night....I need a place to sleep and hang my hat for 7-8 hrs a day. My money goes to Ono grinds, helicopter rides, snorkel tours etc. The location is primo in Kona...across from the Pier and within walking distance of any and everything you could possibly need during your stay. ABC stores, restaraunts of all types, shopping, nightlife (as it exists in Kona) grocery stores, fast food and yup; even snorkeling! The Housekeeping is predictable and meticulous, outside grounds and pool always spotless. AC in room are new Panasonic wall mounts with a remote. The balconies are large and accessed by sliders with screens...great HH and morning coffee spot. The dorm sized fridge in our room worked so well we had to turn it back some because some items were freezing. A flat screen LG TV with a good channel selection....FREE! Excellent laundromat located next to one of the two pools AND a 2nd story deck overlooking Alii drive and the pier area. So I saved the best for last....our pckg. came with free breakfast every morning. Downstairs and semi-attached Tante Resto gave us a feed that where I live costs $7-11 per. If you walk in and buy it ....$5.00! I HIGHLY recommend this property....will return again!!!!!!

Area recommendations
All of it! CUZ! This is Kona on da Big Island! This hotel gives you walking distance capability to 90% of the activities on the Island. Only 7-10 minute straight shot from the airport. The purpose (primary) of our trip was our wedding but I had previously been to Kona 5+ times as a single man.
When to go
Always late September to (very) early October....but get the hell outa Kona before Ironman!! Imagine the Superbowl being held in a small town! Locals love the cash infusion but the event turns the place into a massive four day gridlock....prices on everything skyrocket!
Getting around
Alamo at the airport....Chevy Aveo sedan....all week all over the Island for $65 in gas....AT $4.55 per gallon! Alamo also has the best Map/Coupon filled driving guide magazine on the "rock"....Love it!
What to pack
Casual, casual, casual! Swimsuits, T's and Slippahs!
Must see
Kaahaluu Beach...south on Alii to mile marker 5...think aquarium YOU swim in...TURTLES! Bathroom, showers, picnic facilities AND Lifeguarded. One of top three snorkel spots on Island.
Dining
Okay Guys; be advised that I am budget minded about 50% of the time. Here goes: Boston Basils on Alii near the pier. U-Top-It (behind Lava Java which is always packed but in my opinion highly overpriced) on Alii half a mile south of the pier. Buns in the Sun in Lanihau shopping center behind KSS; this strip center has the aforementioned fast food, Longs Drugstore, numerous banks, Sak-n-Save etc. NOW, this one is special and your gonna have to drive your butt 3-4 miles north on the Queen K (back towards the airport) to the Honokohau Small Boat Harbor /Marina. Two places in there...Bite Me right on the docks above the charter fishing boats and another large Resto with Happy Hour 18 oz drafts in frozen schooners....sorry, its impossible to miss but I cannot remember the actual name of it! Almost attached to the KSS is a place called "Quinns Almost By The Sea". Ya can't miss it....your neighborhood, blue-collar, everyone over forty (yeah!!) great HH / seafood / pubgrub "joint".
Outdoors or beach
Ask a local...drive to Southpoint....you will not reget it!!!! Another FYI...the rental car geeks will try to scare the hell out of you about driving the "Saddle Road" which goes b'tween Mauna Kea/ Loa to Hilo and Volcano.....NOT!! Cool drive and totally safe BUT stay alert....you will love the contrast in scenery!
