“Wonderful setting, wonderful service, wonderful place”

Mauna Lani was fantastic. From the minute you arrive, you are made to feel welcome and understand that the staff is there to serve you. My wife, two boys and I had a great time in the surf, the pool and spending times on the grounds. I came to truly appreciate the hotel's restaurants as they were right on the lawn so we could turn our 5 year old boys loose until the food came and turn them loose again when they finished their meal. No stress - everyone enjoys the meal at their own pace and everyone is safe. Sure it is relatively expensive and you will tip to get your valet parking and the food cost a little bit more. You should not expect to come here to be on the cheap. You come here to have a stress free environment with so many things to do to keep your family entertained: fish pools, swimming pool, multiple beaches to comb, snorkeling, various lessons, turtles sunning themselves on the rocks etc. Note: ocean view, for the many rooms, is ocean view from the lanai.

“Great place for honeymoon”

We stayed at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel for 6 nights for our honeymoon. We are very satisfied with their service. We loved fresh papaya in their breakfast buffet.

“Want to be there still!”

Beautiful spot, charming staff, warm welcome, we upgraded our room, expensive but so worth it! If you go, don't bring beach towels, snorkeling stuff ec, it is all provided.

Area recommendations
It is a leisure resort, no close city, it is expensive to dine out and be there but what a treat!

“Fabulous hotel”

The Mauna Lani Hotel was excellent. Either we went at a quiet time (November) or no one is traveling right now because the hotel was not very busy. This meant that the pool and beach was quite empty. It felt like an exclusive and personal resort. Look out for turtles resting on the beach and enjoy the beautiful fish ponds. The hotel is clean and well maintained. Staff are low key but efficient. The breakfast buffet is really nice but expensive. Choosing off the menu is a much better deal. Finding good quality food in the area is challenging. The hotel restaurant was very good, everything else was just OK (but not worth the price). The local grocery store has good sandwiches for days that you travel around. If you want to try a really excellent place for dinner, drive to Waimea (approx 20 minutes) and eat at Huli Sue's. Incredibly good food and worth the travel time. Don't confuse this with the one at the hotel, which is good but not at the same level as the one in Waimea.

Area recommendations
Make sure you rent a car and get out to see the island. There is so much to see. I recommend the botanical gardens on the east coast. It is amazing. There are a lot of beautiful waterfalls too, but the one that charges you $10 (at the zipline) is not worth the money. Go to the ones supported by the state where you get a great view for free or a maximum of $2.
Getting around
I recommend taking some walking shoes so you can really enjoy the sites. Rent a 4-wheel drive car so you can get around some of the more challenging sites, such as the highest point to see the view/telescopes or down to some of the beaches.
Dining
Huli Sue's in Waimea - excellent. Organic, local produce cooked incredibly well.

“Go! You will love it!”

Wonderful place. Great reception when we arrived. Upgrade was nice to have an ocean view. Food was very pricey but the Canoe Restaurant had the most delicious meal I have ever eaten. Certainly, we would recommend it.

Area recommendations
We rented a car and travelled around the whole island. Only way to do it. So much to see!

“Great place!”

This is really a beautiful hotel. As soon as you walk in there are large open atriums full of plants and many pond areas with all types of fish, turtles, and rays. Beach front location, decent snorkeling right outside your room. Pool was nicely maintained. I ate at the Canoe House which in onsite and found it to be decent. I did not try the room service. The hotel is about 20-30 minutes north of Kona, which is not a problem. There are many shops and restaurants within 5 miles of the hotel and they are much better then anything in downtown Kona. Overall just based on the grounds I would definitely stay here again.

Getting there
Head north on Rt 19 until you reach Mauna Lani drive on the left. Only one road up the west coast so very difficult to get lost!

“Very Peaceful”

We had a very quiet, very peaceful, and very relaxing experience. The rooms are spacious and extremely quiet: we never once heard our neighbors. We had a room one the main level with a lanai opening right to the pool and hot tub area and were originally concerned. But noise was never an issue. Small but pretty beach with comfy seating; good for snorkling, also very quiet. Food was very good, especially in the Ocean Grill. Only negative: for a 4-5 star tropical resort, the pool area was underwhelming. Serviceable and adequate, but not beautiful. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

“decent location but”

travel with 2yrs old. We stayed 5 nights on the 3rd floor. It is annoyed to up & down with two different elevators to get the room. No direct access from lobby to 1,2,3 floor. Beach in front of hotel is not good for swimming or snorkeling. Free parking & free internet & free laundry room are plus. Fish ponds are attractive.
