Great place to spend your vacation of a lifetime.

Posted Oct 15, 2014
Pros: We love the style and atmosphere of the hotel. The staff were outstanding, always friendly and helpful. The grounds are extremely well maintained.
Cons: The hotel is in need of an upgrade in some areas at it is beginning to show it's age in some of the public areas.
Location: Location is excellent for visiting all areas of the island. Use the beach walks in either direction, you will be glad you did.
We love this stylish hotel with it's excellent facilities, beautifully designed and well kept grounds, comfortable rooms, location, small but idyllic beach and friendly, helpful staff. This hotel has a character of it's own. We visited other hotels on the island during our stay, but few had the "atmosphere" of the Fairmont Orchid. Be aware that the food and beverages can be expensive if you are staying on site for your visit. Price should not be taken as a guide to quality since not all of the on site eating facilities offer value for money. Brown's Beach House restaurant serves excellent food and is well worth the visit for an evening dinner. The atmosphere, quality of food and service was outstanding. We had probably the best meal of our vacation there, but again be prepared that this standard comes with a price. That said, most decent restaurants on the island are expensive. Unfortunately the hotel also seems to be a favorite with a number of large corporations for company events. The hotel staff did an excellent job of keeping the inconvenience caused by organized company events to a minimum for other hotel guests. The same cannot always be said for some of the company visitors who are determined to "party hard", although to be fair there were only isolated instances that caused any disturbance during our wonderful stay. There is little the hotel can do about this, but you might want to ask "who is in town?"

The view, the hotel, the climate were perfect

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: The staff was friendly to a fault. They made our stay special
Location: You need to rent a car, because other than a few shops, everything is too far by taxi.
We swam with turtles, and tropical fish every day. We watched indescribable sunsets. The surf lulled us to sleep every night. Please go and see for yourselves.

Not a fan of this hotel.

Posted Oct 11, 2014
Pros: Rooms are nice.
Cons: Don't charge your customers for the teal canvas topped chairs.
The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are lovely. I was extremely disappointed to discover that there's virtually NO BEACH to walk along. It's all rocks and there's a big hedge plant in front of the water, blocking the views. I was also very sad to hear that the beach chairs with the canvas tops are $45-75 per day. I already paid $3,500 just to get to Hawaii. I don't understand why they have to gouge their customers for even more. I will never stay at this hotel again. The Mauna Lani Bay & Bungalows hotel is much better. They have a huge beach and tons of chairs for free.

Excellent hotel with outstanding service

Pros: Location and services
Cons: Staff could relax a bit on the usual guess process, this is a resort after all, note a downtown business hotel,
Location: Beach, golf and lots of explorations...

Great property and people.

Location: On the west coast, approx. 30 min. north of Kona airport, city of Kona and south of the quaint town of Havi. Some great secluded beaches nearby.
The people who work at this resort aim to serve and hit the mark. The staff are friendly and helpful. The property is ideally situated on the water, perfect for snorkeling or watching sunsets. The hotel is well maintained, the rooms are ample and very clean. Kudos to the Fairmont folks. Well done.

Amazing place to celebrate a special occasion

Posted Sep 7, 2014
We stayed 6 nights in August and everything exceeded our expectations of the resort. We stayed in a gold level ocean view suite and I couldn't ask for anything more, except a longer stay next time!

A Weekend in Hawaii

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: It has great views and many recreational activities to offer. The hotel is very clean and comfortable.
Cons: Better communication would be recommended letting the guests know exactly the price to pay when checking out.
Location: It's on a nice place next to the ocean with a manmade beach that people can enjoy. The drive to the hotel was very depressing; black lava remains.
As soon as I drove into the hotel, a kind valet helped me with my luggage and a short tour of the hotel. The hotel itself is very nice. It is located next to the ocean, creating some jaw dropping views, espiecially the sunset. Also, the hotel has many ammenities. There are spas located both inside and outside of the hotel, tennis courts, swimming pool, and beautiful landscaping to capture the great essense of nature. My room was very comfortable and clean. The room was kept at a comfortable temperature with the working air condition. There is also a small patio/porch that leads outside. The bathroom had both a standing shower and a bathtub. Despite all these positives, I was taken aback when the front desk charged me a resort fee for each night even though i did not use the ammenities. When I checked in, I was unaware of the resort fee and only expected to pay a flat rate per night on Expedia. However, no one told me about the extra fees, and I was charged an extra 40 dollars per night. Everything was all good until I checked out and found out about the unfair resort charge.
