Amazing place to celebrate a special occasion

Posted Sep 7, 2014
We stayed 6 nights in August and everything exceeded our expectations of the resort. We stayed in a gold level ocean view suite and I couldn't ask for anything more, except a longer stay next time!

A Weekend in Hawaii

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: It has great views and many recreational activities to offer. The hotel is very clean and comfortable.
Cons: Better communication would be recommended letting the guests know exactly the price to pay when checking out.
Location: It's on a nice place next to the ocean with a manmade beach that people can enjoy. The drive to the hotel was very depressing; black lava remains.
As soon as I drove into the hotel, a kind valet helped me with my luggage and a short tour of the hotel. The hotel itself is very nice. It is located next to the ocean, creating some jaw dropping views, espiecially the sunset. Also, the hotel has many ammenities. There are spas located both inside and outside of the hotel, tennis courts, swimming pool, and beautiful landscaping to capture the great essense of nature. My room was very comfortable and clean. The room was kept at a comfortable temperature with the working air condition. There is also a small patio/porch that leads outside. The bathroom had both a standing shower and a bathtub. Despite all these positives, I was taken aback when the front desk charged me a resort fee for each night even though i did not use the ammenities. When I checked in, I was unaware of the resort fee and only expected to pay a flat rate per night on Expedia. However, no one told me about the extra fees, and I was charged an extra 40 dollars per night. Everything was all good until I checked out and found out about the unfair resort charge.

Beautiful resort! We thoroughly enjoyed the snorkeling and paddle boarding. The extras (spa services, yoga, rentals, etc.) are pretty pricey and there are few to no nightlife activities. Despite that, we still enjoyed our stay.

Pros: Overall layout, sense of serenity.
Cons: The rooms were not quite what I'd expected from a Fairmont, but they were by no means lacking either. Just not as luxurious as I would have expected.
Location: Wonderful snorkeling beach at the Fairmont, pool. A longer drive to explore the island, which is a bit inconvenient, but we were looking for peace
A great stay at the Fairmont Orchid! Everyting was very convenient and it was a beautiful setting.

Great location, beautiful grounds, rooms need help

Posted Aug 22, 2014
Pros: The staff were great, the grounds are beautiful, there is a nice beachfront with cabana options and water sports rentals.
Cons: Attention to detail in the rooms - I think Fairmont is a higher end property and our room did not reflect that.
Location: Excellent beaches on Kohala Coast - only 30 minutes to Waimea or 30 minutes to Kona. About 2 hours to Hilo and 2.5 hours to volcanoes.
The Fairmont Orchid is a beautiful facility with great grounds, pool and beachfront. The staff are very friendly and helpful. However, our room left a little to be desired on several fronts. The beds were comfortable and the room had a nice size refrigerator, but the floor was extremely dirty which we found to be unacceptable since it is tile. We complained about the floors on day 2 of 7 but they didn't seem to clean them very well at any point. We took to keeping towels on the floor so our feet would stay clean. The power outlet on the nightstand was not working and was never fixed even after mentioning it to the front desk on day 2 of 7. One of the louvered lanai doors was also broken and never repaired. I expected a lot more from a Fairmont property - there didn't seem to be any attention to detail (at least in our room). The food options at the hotel also left a lot to be desired and the prices were pretty high - even for a resort. Because of the lack of food options we only had 2 meals on property - the first night we arrived and the last morning before we departed.
