Vacationing in the Big Island of Hawaii

Posted Apr 24, 2015
Pros: Privacy and beautiful setting.
Cons: N/A
We were visiting Hilo for a couple of days and needed a place to stay. I was in 'ahh' to find such a peaceful, beautiful, and private get-away. The deck where breakfast was served made for an extra bonus to be able to see and enjoy the falls. The food was good, too!

best kept secret in hawaii ---shhhhhhh

Pros: the waterfall!
Cons: just try to remember the name of the house you booked and the name of your room, although this is posted outside the main bldg.
Location: long private driveway, go in the light the first time. 20 mins to hilo airport and akaka falls, although you really don't need akaka after this.
absolute nervana. a 100 ish foot waterfall outside your balcony. private. amazing. your own rainforest. very zen. very japanese. very hip and hippie.you live in room in a pagoda, shared kitchen and common space downstairs. amazing hawaiian breakfast overlooking the waterfall every morning. complete peace.

Located six miles from Hilo on a remote property with beautiful waterfalls and scenery. Very peaceful and quite. Excellent breakfast served on a covered lanai while viewing the waterfall.

Unique setting above Hilo

Posted Mar 16, 2015
Pros: Bamboo garden and the walk to the bottom of the Kulaniapia Falls
Cons: Breakfast(s) and service were very good; just wish the mattresses (air) were a bit newer.
Location: Everything from Volcanoes NP to Hamakua coast to Mauna Kea - don't miss Akaka Falls State Park (end of Akaka Falls Rd, Off Hwy 220, ≈15 mi N of Hilo)
The Inn has by far the most unique setting (above Hilo) and the waterfall(s) were in full swing as we arrived during rainy week; it provided a good base for us to cover the south and the west part of the Big Island (everything from Volcanoes NP to Hamakua coast) and would have served equally well for Mauna Kea summit adventure if it was not for the closed road conditions (due to heavy accumulation of snow). Breakfast(s) and service were very good; just wish the mattresses (air) were a bit newer. The only way to access this Inn is via private one lane road (drive slow at night).

Pros: Unique setting and location
Cons: Updates to bathroom facilities i.e. faucet handles and shower heads needs improvement.
Location: Can easily get to Hilo...loved the Farmer's Market
Innkeepers and staff were super friendly. The location was off the beaten path but so worth the drive. Being by a waterfall and bamboo garden put us in a great vacation mindset.

Lovely bed and breakfast out in the countryside..

Posted Feb 27, 2015
Pros: loved the countryside, remoteness, quietness and hearing the waterfall and frogs at night; very relaxing...
Cons: maybe serving something different for breakfast...we basically had the same food (although good) for 5 days..
Location: It is located close to Hilo (10 minutes), you can walk through bamboo garden, over 2 miles of hiking trails, go swimming, kayaking in the falls..
Had a lovely stay at this bed and breakfast inn...slept with the sounds of the frogs and waterfall..located about 10 minutes from Hilo...The room was decorated nice and was clean...downstairs area had a refrigerator, computer, games, books...very pretty countryside...the staff were very nice..
