“Definately recommend if you're on a budget”
This is one of the oldest hotels in Hilo, HI. Some places it shows. The bed hurt my husband's back (not mine). It was easy to find, easy to get access to other sites in the area, the staff was always looking for ways to help. We got it as part of a package. No shower chair in the handicap bathroom, but we just used the plastic chair from the balcony (overlooking the ocean). They should mention the balcony in their advertisement.
“Too many loud birds and frogs outside”
So, the location of the hotel is very convenient, right next to it there is a Queen's Court restaurant, which is a buffet about 37$ per person (drinks included!) and its close to practically everything in town, plus beautiful parks around it. But the htel is very very old and needs reconstruction, so if u are planning to spend some romantic nights in your room - forget about that: very louds birds and frogs! No kidding! About breakfast that is included in the price: mini muffins, english muffins with jellos, butter and papays that's all is served, but u know - its better than nothing! :) I would recommend this hotel only for those who plan only to sleep there.
“Great help when we had a problem with our reservation”
very nice
“business traveler”
Have traveled to Hilo on 2-3 day Business trips dozens of times. Hilo does not offer much for a tourist as far as Hotels go. They are all together in the same location. I need internet connection a soft bed and quiet. Uncle Billy's offers the best value since their internet is included in the price. They offer a bay view very large clean room with internet. I have stayed in all the hotels in Hilo and all the beds are the same softness. As far as quiet, the Coqui frogs see to it that night is a challenge no matter where you stay. The higher the floor the quieter. All hotels offer some sort of breakfast and none are really that great. Parking for all the hotels is free. You may have to walk alittle if you get there late.
“Employees are helpful & courteous!”
I like this hotel. The room is spacious, hotel employees courteous & helpful. I would recommend this hotel to others. Conveniently located & affordable.
“Good hotel for the price!”
So this hotel is kinda run down and all but for the price what do u want? Its right in front of the bay so u can walk to the water, the rooms are big with 2 beds and a pull out couch, good bathrooms and everything else is straight. I dont know why this hotel got such bad reviews, its met and exceeded my expectations.
“Would not go back”
"Established 1968", no apparent renovations since then. Towels were not clean, lots of ants in the room, and my wife discovered a cockroach when she went into the bathroom to shower! The price was right, and hard to place blame considering "you get what you pay for".
“Low cost alternative for explorers (only sleeping at hotel)...”
"You get what you pay for" applies to this establishment. We didn't spend much time in the room or on the grounds. Breakfast was free, but very limited. The General Store on the property is your best bet for quick food. Good location to explore the east coast, just don't expect a lot by way of amenities. Acceptable place to crash in between exploration trips. Be weary if you are a light sleeper, the birds are very loud at night.
“Okay for price”
You get what you pay for and everything else online was more expensive. Finicky folks may be disappointed, but I was fine with my choice. It's older and has not been perfectly maintained, but the bed, kitchenette and bath were clean and everything I used worked. Pluses: Cool jungle/pond courtyard. Right on the bay and just 2-3 miles from downtown. Friendly, responsive staff. Free and working Wi-fi. Attached mini-market. Minuses: Fire extinguisher not charged and smoke alarm not working. I did complain so perhaps they'll get on the ball hotel-wide. Free continental breakfast is just breads, papaya as the only fruit, and mini muffins or pastries. I brought cheese so there would be a little protein. No lounge and the walking distance ones sucked. Other than a nice nearby park, Hilo's hotel row doesn't have much going for it besides whatever is inside your own hotel. I may try a private room in the even cheaper hostel next time, both to be downtown and for the 'meeting people' opportunity. Otherwise, I'd go back to Uncle Billy's.
“A clean room”
a clean room to come to, but not the most comfortable beds.
