"Peaceful hotel in a beautiful spot"
This hotel is blissfully peaceful... No conventioneers marring the landscape( they don't have the facilities to accommodate them). Mauna Lani has some of the most beautiful landscapes on the big Island with the ancient fish ponds edging a white sand beach. Simple, not overdone. The food is overpriced but what else is new! Lovely staff.

We had wonderful time in this beautiful hotel. Nice location, close to the water, the pool is warm and clean. The Luau was also a special terat for us.

"Beautiful open-air hotel on the beach "
The hotel was at 90% capacity when we stayed there but was not the least bit crowded. It is located right on the gorgeous Hapuna beach, which is on the sunny side of the island. The food (although pricey) and service were excellent. A shuttle runs everyday from 5:30-9:50 to the Mauna Kea resort, where we went to dinner one night and had the best mahi mahi ever. This was an incredible resort; will definitely return.

"Nice quiet restful place."
The location was well lit from the road to make it easy to find at night with a big enough sign to find the drive the first time by. The breakfast was well worth the money. Enjoyed the view and it was so peaceful. The cooler, eating utensils and wine glasses added to the place. We were able to pack a lunch and wander to the beach and pick up supplies to have dinner in if we wanted.

"don't miss the sunset at the end of golf course!"
Comparing with the two other Condo Suites in Maui and Oahu, I think Kona Coast is the best. It's big and comfortable, and the master bathtub is huge. The patio is huge, and we can see the golf course, with a big mango tree. We went to the black sand beach, and didn't know that at the end of golf course, there is black sand beach that you can see beautiful sunset. Don't miss it! The only thing is they clean the house once ... a week?? you need to keep your own room clean.

"Relaxing atmosphere."
Staff very friendly and accommodating. Relaxing atmosphere by golf course. Wild turkeys and chicken add to the atmosphere. Beautiful golf course, can see sun set. Nice breeze coming from Mauna Kea, don't need air conditioning.

"Good place to stay near Hilo"
We had to check in after 6:00, but the staff did an excellent job getting the room ready and letting us know how to get the keys, etc. The Expedia description didn't mention the microwave and refrigerator that were there, so those were a bonus. Overall a good experience.

"You will not be disappointed!"
I researched tons of reviews before deciding to book this resort. We could not have been happier. The room had everything and the grounds were beautiful. You really get the total Hawaiian package. Request a top floor and the higher up you are the better the view. We could see the ocean from our balcony. Although that did put us right by the housekeeping facility which was busy and a little loud. But the view was worth the extra noise. Don't waste your time reading tons of reviews like I did. This place was amazing and we will defiantly be back. Don't forget to look in the shed by the main office for beach chairs and boogie boards. Just return them when you leave. It was great. Lastly, we loved eating at lava Java.

    Where to stay in Hawaii

    Big Island Hotel Guide

Richardson’s Ocean Park - Head the black-sand beaches of Richardson’s Ocean Park. This spot in the Hilo region boasts rock pools and surf spots. Kids can play in the pools, which are protected by a natural seawall, while experienced surfers can shred up the break. Don’t miss a tour of the Richardson family home, which was built along the shore in the 1920s.

Akaka Falls - The Akaka Falls State Park features two of Hawaii’s most noteworthy waterfalls: Kahuna Falls and Akaka Falls. Kahuna Falls is 100-feet tall, while Akaka Falls is an impressive 442 feet. Visitors can walk along the half-mile paved trail to arrive at these majestic waterfalls in the middle of the rain forest.
