I stayed in the Ali'i Tower for a little less than two and a half weeks. The view was amazing to wake up to every morning! The staff was friendly and helpful with any questions I had. Never had issues of any nature with the housekeeping staff; they cleaned well and didn't mess with any of my things. The hotel is right next to a shopping center that has plenty of restaurants and a few stores. It's also just down the street from larger shopping centers with grocery stores and such, which made it an ideal location for me to stay at for my trip considering I didn't have a car. They have coin operated laundry machines on site which was nice. They also held a few shows throughout the nights (from fire spinning to hula dancers) which i could see from my balcony, so that was pretty sweet.

"Spacious room, right on the beach"
This hotel has spacious rooms. New furniture and room decoration after the renovation (popcorn ceiling is still there - it may be hard to remove). Close to restaurants. Easy access to many fast food places. Beautiful banyan trees in the front. Nearby Coconut island and Japanese garden are all nice places to stop by. We booked a mountain view room and were given a corner room with partial ocean view. Highly recommend if you plan to stay in Hilo.

"Amazing Hotel with great Activities and Pool"
Our stay at the Sheraton was awesome. The room was big and comfortable with a balcony. The pool at the hotel is great, and has a 200 foot water slide, which was a big plus. Rays on the Bay is a wonderful restaurant with two separate happy hours and great live music. There are also historical sights on the hotel grounds, which was really neat. The hotel also offers activities that were entertaining even for us in our twenties. There were free ukulele, hula and lei making classes run by people who loved doing it. There was also a complimentary shuttle to a lot of Kona's attractions. Snorkeling with the manta rays right outside of the resort was also an amazing experience.

"Highly recommend, got nothing to complain"
This hotel is beautifully designed, and sitting right on the white sand beach. We booked an ocean view room and was upgraded to an ocean front. Upon arrival and seeing the facilities, my family did not want to leave this hotel for sight-seeing. So we just stayed in the hotel for continuous four days. The room is spacious, and the furnitures are considerate picks. Towels are of good quality. The hotel staff and house keeping personel are all nice. The pool is large, clean, and never crowded. We enjoyed walking on the lawn and beach in the morning, and watching sunset in the evening. And of couse we had lots of fun on the Hapuna beach. Will definitely choose this hotel if we visit Big island again. One thing that you need to know: it will take about 15 min drive to Waikoloa, or 20 min to Waimea, for food if you don't want to eat on site.

"Excellent condo"
My husband and I stayed at the Kona Coast Resort for 8 nights this month, and had a very happy, enjoyable and memorable stay. Our condo was very comfortable with excellent accessories. It was very spacious, with a remarkable comfortable bed. We could not fault it. Position was excellent with a major shopping centre very close by. Would definitely stay again.

    Where to stay in Hawaii

    Big Island Hotel Guide

Richardson’s Ocean Park - Head the black-sand beaches of Richardson’s Ocean Park. This spot in the Hilo region boasts rock pools and surf spots. Kids can play in the pools, which are protected by a natural seawall, while experienced surfers can shred up the break. Don’t miss a tour of the Richardson family home, which was built along the shore in the 1920s.

Akaka Falls - The Akaka Falls State Park features two of Hawaii’s most noteworthy waterfalls: Kahuna Falls and Akaka Falls. Kahuna Falls is 100-feet tall, while Akaka Falls is an impressive 442 feet. Visitors can walk along the half-mile paved trail to arrive at these majestic waterfalls in the middle of the rain forest.
