"Fantastic Resort Hotel on the Big Island"
When I arrived late at night the first day of our stay, I could not see the ocean view properly from our room, and I complained to the front desk staff. They were very accommodating, and immediately held a wonderful ocean front room for us to move into the next day. Of course, when I saw the view the next morning during the daylight, it was wonderful, and I had a hard time deciding whether or not to move into the beach front room or not! We did make the move, and hearing the waves crash onto the lava rocks and seeing the boats outside our balcony right after sunset with the snorkelers and underwater lighting to attract the manta rays, was just another bonus among so many. Some people may not like the $30 daily "resort" fee, but it is worth every penny considering all the amenities the resort offers: a fantastic, huge pool with sand entry, meandering pathways, and two slides. Also, Ping-Pong, pool, outside computers and t.v., basketball, tennis, beautiful grounds, including a cute white chapel for Church on Sundays. Also, the resort is centrally located to all the activities the Island has to offer! This resort is perfect for families and couples alike!

"Nice quiet restful place."
The location was well lit from the road to make it easy to find at night with a big enough sign to find the drive the first time by. The breakfast was well worth the money. Enjoyed the view and it was so peaceful. The cooler, eating utensils and wine glasses added to the place. We were able to pack a lunch and wander to the beach and pick up supplies to have dinner in if we wanted.

"Home Away from Home"
This was our second stay at Kona Coast Resort, and we're glad we went back. The condos are spacious and well maintained. When we arrived, we were disappointed to find the large, in-wall microwave oven in our unit didn't heat. I called maintenance and within a few hours they had replaced it with a brand new one. The staff is all friendly and cheerful.

"Beautiful, clean and spacious apartment"
We stayed in a 2-story apartment, with views to the golf course. It was clean, spacious, comfortably furnished, and the kitchen was well equipped. The complex is just 5 miles from Hwy 19, which has access to a variety of beautiful beaches, and just a 10 minutes walk to an excellent supermarket, and some restaurants. We have stayed there before and will definitely come back.

"Excellent Hotel on Epic Beach"
This was our first family vacation to the big island. Our room was nice; we didn't spend a ton of time there, but it was comfortable and peaceful. We did partake of the breakfast buffet most days, and it was always excellent. (I had bread pudding every day. If you're into bread pudding, watch out.) The staff were always generous and friendly. But the real stand-out thing about this hotel is that it's right on Hapuna Beach, widely regarded as the best beach on the big island. The depth and surf were very manageable for our 8-year-old. We saw sea turtles swim by several times. It was also never too crowded (including the public park end of the beach).

    Where to stay in Hawaii

    Big Island Hotel Guide

Richardson’s Ocean Park - Head the black-sand beaches of Richardson’s Ocean Park. This spot in the Hilo region boasts rock pools and surf spots. Kids can play in the pools, which are protected by a natural seawall, while experienced surfers can shred up the break. Don’t miss a tour of the Richardson family home, which was built along the shore in the 1920s.

Akaka Falls - The Akaka Falls State Park features two of Hawaii’s most noteworthy waterfalls: Kahuna Falls and Akaka Falls. Kahuna Falls is 100-feet tall, while Akaka Falls is an impressive 442 feet. Visitors can walk along the half-mile paved trail to arrive at these majestic waterfalls in the middle of the rain forest.
