"Exceeded our Expectations"
The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows is a beautiful resort with friendly, attentive staff. The long sandy beach is replete with cabanas. It wasn't busy at all in late June, early July when we stayed there, and the weather was fabulous. If you are looking for a quiet resort that offers lots of area to walk and you would enjoy the beach, gardens and fish ponds then this is the place for you. You can walk extensively in this area, and as well the hotel has bicycles available for use by patrons. Our king bed was comfortable, and the room had everything we needed including a nice ocean view and lanai. The staff replenish your ice bucket every day for you which was a nice touch. With a rental car it was easy to get around to restaurants and shopping in the area. The golf courses are beautiful and challenging too. We have travelled a lot, and honestly this resort is high on our list. We will return.

"Best beach in the island!"
We stayed a week and Hapuna Beach Prince Resort and loved it! It's only 30 minutes north of Kona making it easy to get back and forth if needed. The resort is on it's own so you're not in a crowded area. Not sure how many people were at the hotel when we were there, but we never felt like we are constantly running into people. The beach is fantastic. It's a nice white fine sand that extends far into the water. Most of the other beaches we noticed were rock. The hotel was very clean and the staff extremely kind. The only down side, which is all over the island, is that the hotel food is pretty expensive. That can be helped with a trip to the grocery store in Wiakoloa only 15 minutes away.

"Nice quiet restful place."
The location was well lit from the road to make it easy to find at night with a big enough sign to find the drive the first time by. The breakfast was well worth the money. Enjoyed the view and it was so peaceful. The cooler, eating utensils and wine glasses added to the place. We were able to pack a lunch and wander to the beach and pick up supplies to have dinner in if we wanted.

    Where to stay in Hawaii

    Big Island Hotel Guide

Richardson’s Ocean Park - Head the black-sand beaches of Richardson’s Ocean Park. This spot in the Hilo region boasts rock pools and surf spots. Kids can play in the pools, which are protected by a natural seawall, while experienced surfers can shred up the break. Don’t miss a tour of the Richardson family home, which was built along the shore in the 1920s.

Akaka Falls - The Akaka Falls State Park features two of Hawaii’s most noteworthy waterfalls: Kahuna Falls and Akaka Falls. Kahuna Falls is 100-feet tall, while Akaka Falls is an impressive 442 feet. Visitors can walk along the half-mile paved trail to arrive at these majestic waterfalls in the middle of the rain forest.
