Nice small hotel

There's only a few rooms in this hotel, so it has a very personal feeling. The restaurant was great, with a good selection of wines.f

Charming, comfortable, full of old world charm. Churchill's Snug Bar was especially a treat!

Wonderful staff and great atmosphere!

Posted Jun 17, 2015
I recently stayed at the County hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff was very friendly and eager to please, from the reception desk to the bar tender, who knew everything about New Zealand wine. Room was nice and had a great ambiance thanks to the historic nature of the building. The location couldn't be beat if you want to stay in Napier.

Old and tacky looking rooms

Posted Apr 29, 2015 on Wotif
Worn out in need of a revamp There's a big difference between historic and just old and worn out. Bathrooms need solid doors as you can hear everything that happens in there from your room, the pipes in the walls are loud as everytime someone turns on their water, I'm not a hotel inspector but there is no way this could be a five star hotel , I would be calling up Gordon Ramsay and getting hotel hell in if I was you.

Napier Hawkes Bay Trip

Arrived late in the evening, welcomed as normal, updated on a few changes & pre booked into the restaurant by John, Next morning a great breakfast & even a chat with the owner Chris, super chap - so a most enjoyable stop over.

A Napier Gem

Posted Apr 20, 2015 on Hotels
This lovely hotel had been converted from a government building into a charming place to stay. Although not "modern" it retained an elegance that is hard to find in newer buildings. Chris, the owner, could not have been more delightful and efficient. Most of the rooms are named after local birds which actually sing in the mornings. The breakfasts were ample and delicious and the room very comfortable. There is a lift in the hotel, a car park across the street and several restaurants in town for other meals. By far the best place to stay in Napier.

Fantastic location

Posted Apr 12, 2015 on Wotif
Pros: The old world retro character and the staff, they really seemed to enjoy what they were doing and where they work
Cons: Umbrellas to get over the road to the car park when it's raining, brand them Country Hotel add $20 to the bill and the guests can take them home
Location: Fantastic
This is a fantastic place to stay, with excellent bar and restaurant
