“a surprising and refreshing change”
was feeling a bit dubious about this hotel, it only appeared to be 3* at best on most of the sites but I needed a hotel slap bang in the middle of Helsinki for a meeting with a scheduled 8.30am start. Plunged in and booked my room. When I arrived at Vaantu, got the bus in to the city centre (4 euros by the way as opposed to 30 in a taxi - ask at tourist info in the airport) 10 minutes walk later I was at the hotel. Stands out fairly well as a cross between a church and a fortress, you come inside and, well, it pretty funky to be honest, the staff are amazing and couldn't be more helpful, their English is flawless and the hotel is just great. The rooms are all in an annex at the back, they're clean modern and extremely comfortable. they have wi-fi, en-suites and a whole range of nice little add ons to the room on a little menu card, including lots of aromatherapy stuff and to top it all the guy on reception brewed me a fresh pot of coffee at 11.45 at night. Beakfast was relatively standard fare, served in the `dungeon' but was all very tasty and great quality, the only thing that wasn't that standard was the pickled baltic herrings for breakfast and they were awesome. Overall if you are in doubt - go for it, I was really surprised it had that rare thing in a hotel nowadays, personality. Enjoy!
