Nothing special

I chose this hotel because it appeared to be inside an old castle and thought it would be a cool mix of old and new. The problem is the entrance to the hotel is in an old castle like building but all of the rooms etc.. were in an adjacent building so I might as well have stayed in a hotel closer to the center of town for the same or less. The original room I reserved was so small I had to pay to upgrade just to have space for our luggage (2 suitcases and 2 carry on bags). The restaurant in the hotel was closed for the entire month so dinner was out although they did still provide an ok breakfast buffet. No tub in the room which wasn't a big deal but I don't think it's too kid friendly since the outside wall to the shower which separated the bathroom from the living room was made out of opaque glass and I could clearly see my girlfriend when she was using the shower or bathroom, not to mention the shady looking strip club on the same street less than 2 blocks away. All in all not a terrible place, but I would stay at a hotel truly in downtown Helsinki and skip this place.

Not as arty as the blurb says ....

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: Breakfast
Cons: The description as an Art Hotel
Location: Good 10 mins walk to harbour
We were disappointed as this turned out to be a hotel with a stunning entrance but then when you went to your room it was a rather dated room in a 1970s block It was clean and in a good location for the city centre but not what was stated in the blurb Next time would choose to stay at the other Glo hotel in Helsinki City centre

Great hotel in a walking distance of everything

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: Great value for the price.
Our family stayed at the GLO Art Hotel an d enjoyed our stay. The rooms are small, but clean and nice. The location was great close to the food market and in the walking distance of shopping & museums and the design district. The breakfast wasn't anything special, but the old cellar restaurant atmosphere made up for it.

This is a terrific hotel in a fabulous location in the design district. You can easily walk to the center Transportation is one block away. The staff is gracious and helpful. The budget rooms are very small. But the price is so reasonable that small is OK.

Good central hotel

Posted Jun 16, 2014
Pros: Pleasant staff, good breakfast. Hotel restaurant quite good and quite good value relative to Helsinki prices
Cons: Lighting in public areas very dim (trying too hard to be moody and atmospheric)
Location: Good choice of restaurants nearby, 10 minute walk to Stockman and the Esplanande so very central
Overall the hotel is good enough. Economy rooms are small and if you are a light sleeper the fan for the bathroom which you cant switch off (Its a wet room) will drive you mad slowly especially in the summer months when it doesn't get dark until midnight.

Wonderful place to stay!

Pros: They had the most comfortable bed I've slept at in a hotel ever - and I travel over 50 nights a year. The free breakfast was also EXCELLENT.
Cons: Handicap access. While I don't require it, someone in a wheelchair or with a cane would find it difficult to access the front door of this hotel.
Location: Walk or take the tram to the Esplanade area - relax there and watch people; see the Public Market, Lutheran Cathedral, and Stockmann's (like Macys).
This was my 3rd trip to Helsinki, and my 3rd different hotel - by far the best! The bed was unbelievably comfortable - wish my schedule would have allowed more time to enjoy it - actually, I spent lots of time enjoying the city during the long late spring days (first weekend of June). I really like the room-darkening shades; because sunrise in June happens at 3:30am and sunset in June is after 10pm. Everything about the room was modern, useful, and clean. Their "welcome" paper comments that you are "only 700 meters" from the center of the city (the Esplanade). While true, it does seem like a long 5 blocks compared to some hotels that are closer. Note for US folks - 700 meters = 7/10 of a kilometer; which is 0.62 miles -- which means the distance 0.434 miles or about 2,300 feet. Worry not! We learned from the friendly and helpful hotel staff that the tram stop is only one block away! We bought a two day tram pass for 12 Euros, and that allowed us to not only connect to the area near the Esplanade, but also all parts of the downtown Helsinki area. This let us travel all over the city; including a trip to Arabia (a-rob-e-a), where the glassware outlet stores reside. We didn't mind walking; rather the option of taking the tram meant that we could minimize transit times to the places we wanted to see. The free breakfast was very good. The variety of foods had something for everyone. I would definitely stay at this hotel again!
