“Very nice and modern hotel”
The bathroom on the main floor was very impressive. The rooms were really small but that is Europe. I like the towel warmer rack.
“Helka Hotel in Helsinki rocks”
Helpful staff, good location, clean, convenient, good breakfast, no fuss. Ask the reception staff about the Alvaar Alto design furniture in the bar and reception area. Recommended.
“Would recommend this definitely”
This hotel is situated far enough away from the main streets without too much walking. Close to Kiasma and the train station (and Finnair bus service to the airport). Friendly staff, great restaurant, great interiors. At the bar in Reception, you can have a drink inside or take it outside and sit watching the world go by. It is also close to catching the trams, 3 for the tourist circuit, or others close by. Enjoy your stay!
“Great resturant”
Great resturant with typically Finnish cuisine. Rooms were small but clean and well serviced.
“nice, affordable place in helsinki”
I stayed in July 09 and had a pleasant stay. The hotel helped me with directions, bike rental, and taxi service. They have free wifi in the lobby which worked well. (only one internet termial though) Breakfast buffet was ok. Sauna looked brand new, but only available for limited hours in the morning. Room is comfortable, though no in-room carpet (only hardwood floors). Location is good. It's about a 15-20 min walk down to the Esplanade through a busy mall and other active cafes and bars. If you're noise sensitive, I'd ask for a room on the inside. I'd stay there again.
“Decent Hotel in Expensive City”
I just needed an overnight stay in Helsinki, so chose this hotel for cost savings in comparison to most in central Helsinki. I asked in advance for a quiet room and got one -- small but perfectly adequate and clean. Wouldn't necessarily make it a base to spend a longer period in Helsinki. Included breakfast was varied and good, but why do so many hotels think people want watery scrambled eggs?
“Stylish.”
Lovely hotel - very stylish. Gorgeous landscape suspended from ceiling in bedroom. Single room a little small - nowhere for my suitcase to comfortably fit. Staff friendly and helpful. Good variety of breakfast - which i didn't even realise was included. Good central location.
“helka helsinki”
the hotel has a good location, rooms are tidy and have good design. The only downside to the room is two single beds pushed together - to make a double - i kept slipping through the middle. this hotel is environmentally friendly - makes an attempt which is a good sign. breakfast is good. reception were very helpful and efficient. nice bonus is the sauna.
“Surprisingly snazzy”
Helka has a great location (just a few blocks from the main train station). The outside is not very impressive but instead it is very clean, modern, and stylish. The room was small but comfortable and had free internet. My only disappointment was that breakfast on Sunday didn't start until after I had to leave for the airport, but other than that, it was a great hotel to spend the night in before flying out of Helsinki.
“Mixed experience, good outweighed bad”
I had a mixed experience at this hotel, but the good outweighed the bad in the end. The good: thoughtfully decorated, comfortable rooms (I especially liked the forest scenes hanging from the ceiling above the beds), a sauna, a bar with nice bartender who served vodka on tap (!), good breakfast buffet, free in-room wireless Internet connection, convenient location. The not-so-good: I was dismayed when I first arrived and checked into a room with a bathroom that hadn't been cleaned and indeed looked like the aftermath of a frat party, but the nice folks at the front desk upgraded me right away to a bigger room with a better view. Unfortunately, constant noise from guests upstairs and folks having a party next door drove me out of that room the following night, but again the desk folks were helpful and responsive, and moved me to a lovely quieter room. If you're willing to go with the flow a bit here, it's worth a stay.
