Good location but fundamental issues

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: Location, kitchen, pretty street
Cons: Room temperature: install air con - you know it is a problem, it has been a problem all summer; replace mattresses; introduce a "Good Night Guarantee"
Location: Good location for all (incl. airport bus, Olympic stadium, supermarkets, 15 min walk to central station, about 20 to harbour)
We stayed in the room in mid August and found that it was much too hot. It was hotter inside the room than outside. Helsinki hat just had a number of very hot weeks and despite the air temperature being much cooler during our stay, the room had not cooled down yet. The majority of windows were bolted and the staff were unhelpful in addressing the problem. The beds are very/too soft. The reception only has limited opening hours (it closes early on Saturdays and is closed on Sundays) which may be a problem if you require any assistance. Having said this, the location is convenient and we were keen on a place with a kitchen.

Charming flat in an elegant art nouveau building

Posted Aug 19, 2014
A spacious flat in a good location, everything we needed was there, and we used the sauna in the basement which was excellent. Helpful staff. Beautiful art nouveau (judendstil) doorway and decorations on the stairwell. Quiet and airy, with an attractive old stove in one corner.

Centrally located hotel

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: The central location.
Location: Tempeliaukio Church and the Finnish museum are just a couple of blocks away.
The building is confusing with several separate elevators and staircases to different rooms on different levels. On weekends there is no receptionist present in the building, and you have to figure out how to get your keys. The location is very central: a couple of blocks from the Tempeiaukio Church, a few more from the railway station, and not far from the Esplanades and Edelasadama (South Harbour.)

Great apartment close to city centre

Posted Jul 2, 2014
Pros: Everything. The location, the kitchen, the sauna (in our 2 bedroom apartment only) the staff, the late check out of 12 noon.
Location: Close to the railway & bus terminal, an easy flat walk to the centre of Helsinki. Also close to the art galleries and museums.
Easily accessible from the main train/bus station Hellsten is a fabulous hotel. The apartment was well equipped with kitchen facilities perfect for our family of 3 boys 8, 6 & 4. The layout was also large enough for us to move about without tripping over each other. So great was this apartment that when our flights home, at the end of our trip to Iceland, were changed and we found ourselves back in Helsinki we chose to stay another night at Hellsten rather than change our plane tickets! Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Large space, close to downtown

Posted Jun 28, 2014
Pros: Every thing was prearranged and worked
Cons: Have a human being on staff all the time.
Location: Storyville Jazz club - must do. Kiasma Museum + Design Museum - double must do.
Interesting experience, clean nice large space. But we never met any staff member through out our stay, neither for check-in nor check-out... but everything worked fine,... this is the future of hotels!

Good hotel near the centre of Helsinki

Posted Jun 13, 2014
Pros: It had everything that I needed. Being near the centre of town made it easy and cheap to get to from the airport. The staff wer all friendly.
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning.
Location: About 200 yards from the National Museum and the Finlandia convention centre. Major shopping centre nearby as well as corner shops for snacks, etc.
I stayed here for three nights on a business trip. The hotel was a good price for its location, but was also good quality and good value for money. It's 10-15 minutes walk from the central railway station, which can be reached from the airport by the 615 bus (€5 each way). Major shopping centres are between the hotel and the station, so you can get everything that you need. And the hotel has free-of-charge WiFi 24x7. The hotel is clean and quiet. You look after your own room (make your own bed), and mine had a small kitchen, cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, tableware, etc, so it's good for a long stay as well as a short stay. The bathroom was in good condition - shower not bath. Some rooms have larger living rooms and some have balconies. I'd stay here again and recommend it to anyone as being good good - not a 5-star hotel but a hotel that's perfectly OK for normal people.

Handy location, close to city centre ...

Posted Jun 4, 2014
Pros: Initial attraction was mainly the location ... it is near city centre and on bus route to airport ... one stop on tram (4 & 7 & 10) to centre ...
Cons: The manning of reception at weekends ... it was closed on Sundays, most of Saturday ... it was also closed on Ascension Day during my visit ...
This was my second visit to both Helsinki and the Hellsten Helsinki Parliament ... and I would return for a third time without any hesitation ...

Good location. More independence.

Posted May 28, 2014
Pros: See above. Also, as a child, I used to live on that street!
Cons: More fluffy pillows, please.
Location: Hotel is centrally located. Quiet location. Tram stop nearby.
Enjoyed not having to depend on eating out all the time. Quiet location. Appreciated laundry facility. One drawback was bedding. The hotel only provided one very flat pillow. Had to buy an additional one. Overall, good experience. This was my second stay.
