“Cost / Benefit satisfaction hotel”

Very near from Explanada with nice shops and restaurants, the market square is amazing and only 5 minutes walking from the hotel. Delicious breakfast buffet included (not salmon anymore!). One step away from the cruises port. My 5th time there and I am definitively going back.

“Convenient to Ferry and Market Square”

This hotel caters to business customers but is great for tourists as well. If you are using Viking Line ferries to Stockholm or Tallinn, the terminal is across the street. The central Market Square and Senate Square is less than a 10 minute walk. The hotel restaurant is reasonable and prepares good food. The breakfast is predictable Scandanavian fare but ample. The rooms featue free WiFi and are comfortable. My only observation is that there is no way to adjust the temperature of the room. Overall an excellent hotel if a little pricey.

Area recommendations
The Market Square area is a great place to experience life with Finlanders. Most everything is within a 20 minute walk of the square. The Rock Church is further away but is probably the highlight of the city. Set aside a half hour to simply sit and enjoy the serenity and lovely sacred music piped into the church. This is truly a unique experience. A visit to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral provides an opposite experiece. A riot of color and sumptuous art in a stunning setting. The contrast is amazing. End with a visit to the Helsinki temple of commerce, Stockmanns Department store. walking the city is a treat. Everything is very civilized, organized and ordered. Loved the museums, churches, markets and people.

“skinny hot room”

During the summer the brick building heats up. This was early september. Then at night the room stays warm because there is no A/C. So room is hot at night when sleep is attempted. Over half the rooms are very narrow, so there is only a twelve inch walking area at foot of bed. Apart from these two disasters, food is fine, hallways are very pretty, and location is convenient. Staff are helpful with superb english. No CNN.

“Overall, a good experience.”

The location of the hotel was the best part of our stay at the Grand Marina. It was a short walk to the harborfront which was a buzz of activity with the outdoor market, Uspenski Cathedtral, Helsinki Cathedral, Old Market Hall, Esplanade Park, and easy access to many ferry lines. It is close to all of the action yet on a quiet street to ensure a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel itself seemed clean and well maintained with a great breakfast. My minor complaint is with the air conditioning which we felt did not cool the room enough during the day. This was not a big issue since most of our days were spent exploring the city. A bigger concern was upon arrival. We arrived 2 hours before check-in time to a lobby full of other guests waiting to check in. We were told by the apologetic staff that the computer system was temporarily down and early check-in was unavailable; that is understandable. What I found to be questionable was the front desk staff's failure to notify us 3 hours later that we could finally get to our room. I found out only after observing another party arrive, check in, and receive their room keys. Since we were camped out with all of our luggage, tired from an overnight flight, just steps to the right of the front desk, it would have been a much appreciated gesture for one of the staff to call or simply wave us over to finally regisiter. Thankfully I did not fall asleep waiting for 3 hours like my aunt did otherwise, who knows how long we would have waited.

“Not regrettable at all !”

Very good hotel with reasonable costs. Staffs quite friendly, and breakfast, one of the best I've experienced ! Hotel is not right in front of the main spots, but all walking distance though, about 5 mins to Market Square and 15 mins to Central Station, or you can also take a tram to see around which station is very close to the hotel. Room was very well maintained, spacious and most of all, very quiet unlike other hotels which are right in the middle of center area. If you want comfortable sleep in quieter area, but still close to the center, this hotel is IT! Only missing thing is a view, as there is a big building right across which blocks view to the port, but it was manageable. Maybe top floor or some other rooms which are not blocked shall be a better choice. Generally very satisfied and can consider staying there again.

“Very nice hotel close to the ferrys”

Is is a big hotel close to the ferrys station and to the orthodox cathedral. It is 10 min. walk from the Esplanade and 15 min. from the railway station. Rooms are quite large and very confortable, breakfast and internet are included and both are good. The staff is very helpful, there are also a sauna and a fitness room in the basement, and even a coiffeur. I wanted a taxi early in the morning to go to the airport and they founded a shared taxi, with another passenger, which made me the trip cheaper, even if I had not ask for it. They are very vigilant about pickpockets or people trying to steals bags in the hotel, this fact surprised me but it is not strange during summer holidays.

Area recommendations
The Fine Arts Museum is always an interesting visit, they have temporary exhibitions and a permanent collection. The coffee shop of the Museum is all right if you want to have a light meal.

“We can understand why this hotel is so busy. A very good value!”

The staff was helpful but you have to understand the Finnish. If you ask them they will answer your question directly with excellent information. The staff were fluent in English.

Area recommendations
The Scandic was located at the harbor. The market place was steps away as was the esplanade.
