Great, friendly staff, good pool!

Posted Aug 23, 2014
Pros: Views and staff
Cons: Our room was on the very edge of the cliff so it was too windy to sit on the balcony.
Location: The town is nice, walkable on the way down the hill but you need a car to get back up (or a cab). If you want to sight see then you need a car.
The hotel had lovely views and the staff were friendly and helpful. You need a car if you want to travel around and see the sights, or, to go to the beach (30 minute walk down a very big hill!). The food was lovely, and there were facilities round the pool such as table tennis if you have children that need entertaining.

Outstanding!!

The current Picture is not this hotel. Wonderful experience. The staff was great, helped in planning our day excursions. We picked the apartment. Sleeps 4, two balconies, refrigerator, stove, & air. TV didn't work well but then didn't use that much. Air was important. Shower was Greek standard. The Staff started breakfast for us one hour before the normal start time. Breakfast was a feast to say the least; wonderful. The pool was saline and cool. And it's true it was hard to find when driving in from the west, there's two exits. From the east it easy. I will stay there again.

Average

The staff was very helpful when they were available. The place seems to run with a skeleton staff. This could be an end-of-season issue but at times it was difficult to find anyone to provide service. Water pressure in our room was very variable ranging from normal to a trickle. This was very inconvenient, and unlike anywhere else we stayed on Crete. The room was clean and well-maintained otherwise. An average place to stay.

Relaxation in a wonderful setting

Posted Aug 26, 2008
The staff here are what makes this hotel so pleasant. It's peaceful, away from noise, and has a wonderful view. You won't need the beach as the salt-water pool is great. The walk into town for shops, beach & restaurants feels long (20-30mins)in the heat. Eating at the hotel is expensive and very little is provided by way of self-catering equipment though you can always ask for what you need. Stay here for relaxation and the feeling of being pampered. However, if you are at all susceptible to insect bites, PLEASE take repellent as we were eaten alive IN OUR ROOM and 3 weeks down the line the bites - which were serious in number and not from mosquitoes - are still itching and causing severe discomfort.

Great experience

The Happy Cretan was a little out of the way, but once you knew how to get there was easy enough to get to. Anthony was very accomodating and was a very warm and caring person who made the stay most enjoyable. He was there to answer any questions and bring us what was needed. When we arrived late and the restaurant was already closed, he got the chef to prepare dinner for us. The experience was amazing. We felt like royalty when everything was cooked just for us and served family style to us. The meal was not cheap, but worth the experince.

First Class

You must visit this hotel. Nothing too much trouble for staff. Food and service first class. Breakfast something to experience - have it brought to your room and eat on the terrace. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place for you.

Amazing view, hotel staff very friendly, calm and pleasant stay

Posted Aug 27, 2007
Although you will need a car to get to the Happy Cretan, (I strongly recommend renting a car if you're staying in Crete at all), this out of the way hotel was the perfect place for our little stay. Nicely situated, a short distance from Heraklio and within reasonable distance of Rethymno, close to a couple of beaches and with a spectacular view of the ocean and the mountains, we loved this calm and serene hotel, and it's very friendly staff.

Perfect place to relax

Posted Jul 18, 2007
We were at the Happy Cretan for a conference in Heraklion so it was not so convenient without a car (there is bus and taxi service, but its not easy). Nevertheless, it is a beautiful place to relax, the breakfasts are fabulous and the views incredible. Btw, a wonderful saltwater pool that is open all night is an added plus.

Happy Cretan days

A balcony in the hills overlooking the sea; An immaculate, quiet hotel among flowers and birds; Nice and simple architecture; comfortable rooms & appartments. Pleasant swimming pool with jacuzzi. Friendly and devoted staff; great Cretan food. A 3 *** plus. Loved it.
