Well located short walk to beach/bus stop/restaurants. Good pool at accommodation and a great bar to finish the night under the trees in candlelight.
Fourth return.. remains well equipped and clean throughout.

Absolutely wonderful place. Our flight arrived at 11.45 in the evening and Georges (the owner) father met us and showed us to the room as he lives on the premises. There was a welcome note with fresh cut flowers, homemade wine and a homemade chocolate cake as well.
George was extremely friendly and helpful and the perfect host. The room was very clean and had an enormous balcony overlooking the sea.
Perfectly situated as well, a minutes walk from the beach in one direction and a minutes walk from the main bus stop in the other.
We had a fantastic time.

Arrived from airport via hire car to the village. Hire car worth getting as you may wish to get food from supermarkets and sight see. Not imperative - but taxi to & from airport for family of five would have been a fifth of car hire anyway.
Our apartment was self catering (although they obviously do breakfast and other quality food offerings), clean & had air-con in bedrooms. Basic kitchenette was functional with full size fridge. Maid service with fresh sheets every 4 days, and towels every two. Rubbish removed and loo roll replaced. Floor mopped and beds made on towel change over.
Swimming pool clean, nice bar area, not too busy even when hotel was full.
The couple who ran the business were professional, kind, courteous and attentive. They were approachable and extremely knowledgeable about the area. Really can't thank them enough for their welcome.
We went on several trips as we like to alternate between pool days & sight seeing with our 3 kids.
Recommend Spinalonga, Lasithi Plateau (turn right at T junction as you approach plateau and grab coffee at flower laden taverna on left - two km from the cave of Zeus) worth a visit. Take trainers - it's a 1km plod up a rocky path. We also made it to the water park - Aquaplus - which was good to do - but go later (3pm) as there is only so long one can splash about for...
Lots of great restaurants in village - Piscopiano. Kostas; Litchnos; Patricko and Aposperida were our favourite - service and food grea

Buildings and gardens around property are really well maintained and feel authentically Cretan yet modern. Small cluster of apartments at top of hillside mean it is quiet and a good place for a relaxing stay, yet close enough to Archanes to pop into the town square for a meal in the evening (recommended - local cafes and hotels are good). Staff / owner were lovely. The place is small enough to give a good personal experience.
We arrived late at night and it can be a little hard to find in the dark. Many local roads are unnamed and very steep and can just peter out into dirt tracks. Part of the charm but best to be ready for it. Discovered next day a lot of signs about halfway up lamp posts in the area giving directions.

"Lovely villas, beautiful setting, great owners..."
We arrived at Moutzanakis quite late at night, after a late flight, and couldn't have felt more welcome. Our villa was lovely. Simply but stylishly furnished, airy and light, and with two terraces on the ground floor, and one upstairs, leading out from our bedroom. Outside, the two pools looked very inviting, although they were a little chilly in early April.
When we awoke on our first morning and saw the views of the surrounding hills and the sea, we realised just how picturesque the setting is. This was topped off with a delicous (and substantial!) breakfast - all locally sourced - provided in the communal eating area. Marco and his wife provide a wealth of information on the local area, and they speak excellent English and French.
We made a couple of trips into Heraklion, which we thought was a wonderful and vibrant town (contrary perhaps to popular belief) and we thoroughly enjoyed a visit to a nearby convent, as recommended by Marco, to see the beautiful gardens . There were many other things we could have done, but didn't have chance during our four day stay. The area surrounding Achlada and the nearby coastline definitely seems less touristy than the Chania end of the island, where we went after our stay at Moutzanakis. It's an excellent place to get away from it all and the sort of location that would suit couples or families who like to be away from the main tourist areas, and who enjoy walking or driving around to explore.

Stunning hotel in mountain location. Perfect for unwinding and relaxing. Hotel owners and staff are extremely pleasant and welcoming, it's just like staying with family. They will give you every assistance needed and are extremely knowledgeable about the island, helping you plan any days out you might like to do. I would recommend prearranging Stelios from the hotel to collect you from the airport as it can be difficult to find. He is then happy to organise a hire car for you which again is recommended to get out to villages, restaurants and beaches. There is a lovely taverna very close but does involve an uphill walk so take appropriate shoes.

My wife and I went to the Aquis Arina Sand for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been a better experience. Not only is it in picturesque Heraklion with it's perfect sunsets, peaceful atmosphere and warm clean sea, but the staff and all that we met there are lovely, accommodating people. From the second we got there the staff was very kind and took us to our bungalow on the sea which had a complimentary bottle of Crete bubbly and a fruit plate. It was a very nice touch to start off our honeymoon after a long 19 hour trip to get there from our home in Canada.
The next 9 days were filled with awesome food from around the world, pleasant staff interactions, and relaxing time spent by the pool and sea. While we were there to just relax and unwind, there was plenty of activities offered at little or no cost at all. The resort has an arcade, pool & ping pong tables, as well as rentals of jet skis, paddle surfing boards and even parasailing.
The 'Animation Team' is terrific. They put on activities and shows every night such as traditional Greek dancing, performance art and dance parties. Throughout the day they are seen greeting guests and ensuring everyone is having a good time as well as running beach volleyball, water polo and other activities.
I could go on a lot more about our terrific experience there, but will sum up my review by saying it was a pleasure to be there and would recommend it to anyone. Crete is beautiful, and the people there are lovely.
