Expensive

Posted Dec 9, 2014
Pros: It was the most affordable place to stay that we could find on the Web. It was clean.
Cons: Nicer duvets. Cheaper breakfast prices.I had to drive around with a sat-nav to find breakfast. I don't need plush; just warm and functional.
Location: I went to a conference. I didn't want to 'do things' nearby.
Separate toilet and shower room: good idea. Breakfast prices exorbitant, so we had to find it elsewhere. It's a 'party' venue, which we accepted, but the bass thumping went beyond midnight. The website advertises a link with a gym. Upon arrival, we found out that it is '3 minutes' drive away', which, in real time, becomes somewhat longer. The duvets are thin and skimpy; we ended up using the extra bed's duvet as well. This is December.

Nice in Theory

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Pros: The restaurant staff were cheery and helpful, and the room clean.
Cons: The recpeptionists and their full understanding of English.
Location: N/A
Some of those on reception neither helpful nor friendly and did not comprehend nature of simple enquiry. Also, returning late in evening from a conference to find there was no spaces in car park left for those actually staying at the hotel! There was a loud, noisy social evening with music and drum beats unacceptably loud and disturbing for guests needing to sleep. It did stop at midnight but the sound simply resonated throughout. Asking about parking. I was told that it 'was on a first come first served basis and I would need to go and park in the street', with little concern that I was pre-booked and pre-paid.

Nice Place - Good VFM

Posted Nov 10, 2014
Pros: Room was lovely - size and comfort.
Cons: Decor and carpets in bar and corridors.
Location: St. Albans is a fantastic city - historical cathedral and Roman museum and theatre site. Hatfield Galleria shopping centre is good too.
We stopped here for a weekend in St.Albans. It was great value and although the bar and decor a bit dated the room was fantastic value for money. Being a football fan I loved the history about the 1966 World Cup and the teams that stayed there and also that it was used by England teams afterwards.

Pros: pass
Cons: fairly old hotel.
One night only, not much sleep as woken by the wind, forgotten the window open.

Lovely convenient hotel

The hotel is ideally only a 5 min drive from Welwyn station and the hotel staff could not be friendlier.

You get what you pay for

We stayed over to attend a wedding in Hatfield. Staff were helpful, hotel a bit "worn" and needs at least a lick of paint but pleasant enough and good value. Good breakfast worth mentioning!
