Good find - great locationPosted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: I liked the location, attention to detail, pleasant and helpful staff and exceptional food.
Cons: Window handle in need of repair.
Location: Close by to Hexham and Hadrians wall as well as Kielder and Scottish Borders - great place to spend a few days to explore this area.
Arrived about 7.30pm and checked in by very friendly staff who were able to offer my husband and I a reservation for dining that evening. Food was excellent and good value for money, as was the breakfast the next morning. All staff attentive and no delay with check out. This was a very short break but we will return for a longer period as it is a great find.

Ideal Hotel for family Short Term StayPosted Jul 13, 2014
Pros: The restaurant was excellent with a menu that was ideal for both adults and children. The service was attentive and friendly.
Stayed in family room which was spacious and very comfortable. Fresh bowl of fruit in the room with an excellent selection of quality tea, coffee both instant and filtered. Good selection of quality eco friendly products in the bathroom. Obvious efforts by the owners to have a more eco friendly hotel with special touches. Fresh strawberries from the garden for breakfast particularly popular with the children.

Brilliant stay at Battlesteads!Posted May 27, 2014 on Hotels.com
We stayed in a family room and were very pleased with the room. It was exceptionally clean and they were some nice personal touches such as fruit on arrival and natural hand-made toilettries in the bathroom. We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were exceptional! The dinner was made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the choice at breakfast was excellent from fresh fruit to homemade jams/marmalades to selection of cereals and cooked breakfasts. Service was impeccable, the staff were attentive, friendly and polite. Overall we were very impressed with Battlesteads and would thoroughly recommend!

Superb StayPosted Sep 1, 2013 on Hotels.com
I completely enjoyed everything about this stay. The facilities were clean and tidy. The grounds were terrific. The food was fabulous. There was ample car parking. It was quite. The staff were so friendly, especially to my children. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Our country stayPosted Aug 24, 2013
Cons: Absolutely nothing , it was perfect
Location: Wow, the Haidrans Wall, Roman Museum, Bird watching, nature hikes, Pubing, relaxing in the Englsh country side
We had the most wonderful surprise of all . I booked the hotel not really knowing much about the area and WOW what a lovely , lovely place. Rooms are decorated ,ultra clean, wonderfull beds and linens , soft , thick towels , wonderfully soap and creams ,what a gem ! The owners could not have been more accommodating to us, they drove us around to the sights and made us feel like family. The Pub and restaurant were superb , food all local , cooked to perfection. We also had a tour of the private garden , in which they grow all the veggies for the restaurant , very nice. I would definetly recommend this hotel 100% , and if you know me this is pretty rare , I am the worst critic on earth . I will recommend this hotel to all my friends and who knows I may be back someday soon. Loved it !!

Ideal point for inspecting Hadrian's WallPosted Jul 24, 2013
Pros: Atmosphere, room presentation, country environment
Cons: No issues personally, stairs could be an issue for some travellers
Location: Small country town (unfortunately no time to explore it) and good location for regional excursions
Battlesteads was probably the most pleasant stay of the trip. While it is not fair to compare a country hotel with a city establishment the presentation of the room stood out and the country pub appeal inevitably surpassed the impersonal city establishments. Meals were excellent, staff were delightful and WiFi services were available. Stairs to the upstairs rooms might be a problem for some but that would apply to most older establishments in rural areas. Parking was not an issue and Hadrian's Wall sites were not far away.

A gem in the countryside, a perfect country hotel.Posted Jul 23, 2013
Pros: food, location, ambiance
Cons: Nothing bad about it
Location: Lovely little village and the Hotel has a beautiful graden
I stayed one night as i was cycling with my dog around the Hadrian's Wall area. I only wish I had stayed the 5 nights I spent in the area here and traveled out daily. My mistake. The hotel is an environmentally green hotel. The owners and staff were exceptionally hospitable to myself and my dog. It offers a relaxed ambiance, is spotlessly clean, comfortable bed and facilities. The food was first class utilising local ingredients and the service was efficient and friendly. As I said, my mistake not to have based myself here and moved around the area. I stayed at other higher priced and overrated places and none came near the Battlesteads Hotel in quality of food, service and relaxed ambiance. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a base from which to travel around the region or staying overnight and I especially recommend it to dog lovers and cyclists.
