“SO much better than "upscale" Savannah hotel!”
I wanted to tack on a reasonably priced day at the beach to a conference in Savannah. The HEI at Bluffton was about 1/3 of the price of the 4-star Savannah hotel, and if this hotel is typical of HEI, I wish I'd stayed at one during the conference. At the luxury hotel, parking, wireless, and any television channels except for sports and news were tacked onto the exorbitant cost. At HEI/B, all these were free. The room wasn't as beautifully tarted up but it was just as big and the bed was a LOT more comfortable. I especially appreciated the range of hard, medium and soft pillows (all appropriately labeled). Knowing they attract beachgoers (the hotel is actually about 12 miles from the beach, but down a very easy back road), they had printed directions to the two popular local beaches and the counter clerk was able to tell me about the two so I could choose the better fit for me. Check in is at 3 or 4 but my room was ready when I arrived around 1. The hotel is set slightly apart from a shopping plaza, so there was no noise, but I could walk to several quite good pubs and restaurants, a grocery store, and a liquor store among others. (The La Hacienda Mexican was particularly good, and I don't even care for Mexican food). The hotel crew members were less obsequious than those in Savannah, but so much more efficient. This hotel is just simply well located and well run. Oh, and the blackout curtains are so good that had to crack them to find the bed at midday! NICE!
