"Special occasion wonder"
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary in this magnificent mansion. A bit weathered by time, it has a very focused staff, from the reception to the extras, like: wine and d'oeuvres at 5pm, after dinner drinks and a superbly elegant breakfast, all complimentary. It is a wonderful experience with an elegant sense of history.

"Great location, very helpful staff, lovely room"
We had two days in Charleston and appreciated the staff all of whom were helpful and took time to determine what we were interested in doing among the very many options. Our walking tour with Ann Middleton was fabulous as were the restaurants located near the John Rutledge House. The carriage house on the grounds was lovely and just right for Charleston.

"Great for an active tourist!"
I had a lovely two night stay for with the Francis Marion. The bellhops/valets are very attentive and it is Completely Worth It to have your car valeted by the hotel. I They granted me a late checkout which allowed me to have several hours touring the city before I needed to leave. Apart from a visit to Magnolia Plantation and dinner at the Tattooed Moose I never needed my car. Call the concierge ahead of time if space is an issue because they do not assign the room until you arrive. My room was 150 sq ft with a small (but deep!) bath and tiny closet, and one queen bed. Perfect for my needs as a single traveler with small luggage. However looking at the fire exit map I noticed several rooms much narrower than mine and only a few larger. I did request a refrigerator because I travel with food. This was not placed in the room until almost 2 hours after arrival. If you need a fridge for medication specify that with the hotel directly and they may make accommodations.

Dating back to Colonial times, Charleston, home to 120,000 people, was nearly obliterated during the American Civil War. However, some historic buildings remain and are popular destinations, including Fort Sumnter, Boone Hall Plantation, and the Old Exchange Buildings. The South Carolina Aquarium, home to 10,000 plants and animals, is another popular tourist attraction.
