Great birding experience, food could be better.Posted Jan 10, 2015 on Hotels
We especially enjoyed the game drives and bird walks with ranger Peter, who was very knowledgable and keen to share his insight on ecosystem, insects, birds. The food was mundane...vegetarian food is not just providing cooked vegetables for meals.

wonderful place wonderful staffPosted Sep 30, 2014
Cons: lions and elephants.......except of course we would then have to be caged in and I loved the freedom
excellent from start to finish.took a group of 8 to Makhasa. the rooms were clean comfortable, food delicious....and staff treated us like 5 star guests. they could not have been any more friendly or helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. it is true there are no lions or elephants on site but they are close by. we found the intimate setting of Makhasa exactly what we wanted. a perfect base for utter relaxation and visiting area. loved the game drive and rhino walk. we all found it a truely lovely african experience. thanks staff.

truth in advertisingPosted Sep 27, 2014 on Hotels
Makhasa Game Lodge was not what we expected. We arrived to find we were the only guests for our entire stay of 4 days! Makhasa is a small place; 6 'huts', up to 18 guests. We did not know this prior to our arrival. After the first night we settled in a bit and did enjoy the relaxing environment. We were attended to wonderfully by Bette and Donovan. . Sitting at the main lodge, we were able to watch Nyala, Baboons, Warthogs and many birds throughout the day. We also were able to observe a Hyena at night which was fabulous. We did leave earlier than our 4 days, partially due to the lack of other guests. If we had know prior to our visit the true set up it would have helped. We may still have gone to Makhasa. They have been bought by another company recently and appear to be undergoing some changes. Truth in advertising always pays off.

Fantastic staffPosted Aug 8, 2014 on Hotels
We really enjoyed our stay in Makhasa, lovely accomodation and the staff were very helpful. Rooms were very clean with wild life walking past our room in the morning. James and Donavon did everything possible to make our stay the best possible, knowledgable re the local wild life ++++. Would recommend this to my friends for sure.

ExceptionnalPosted Apr 26, 2014 on Hotels
Very peaceful place, human size unlike most of the lodges in many reserves in South Africa, passionate and professional rangers. Great rooms, very traditional yet very clean and comfortable. Fantastic dinner. Because of its relatively small size, only rhinos could be spotted. No elephants or leopards to be expected, for which you will need to go in bigger reserves, who will not have the charm and authenticity of Makhasa

Giraf til middagPosted Oct 20, 2013 on Hotels

Nice and cozy room, great ranger!Posted Oct 19, 2013 on Hotels
We had a great stay in a cozy little hut. Great game drives, especially the rhino tracking was a blast. Thanks to ranger James! Also the dinner in the bush was very exciting, great food.
Nette Lodge, jedoch weit abgelegenPosted Oct 15, 2013

Magic GetawayPosted Aug 22, 2013 on Hotels
Loved the set up. Rooms are very rustic but they have been done up fantastically. Great food and hospitality. Only slight nag was arriving in the dark and we were unprepared for the cross country drive to the lodge. We only stayed for one night but will definitely book a longer stay in future.
