“Location, Room, Views - all great”

An excellent hotel. The location is great - not all that far to walk to Notre Dame Cathedral and Reunification Palace. Also for Aussie Commonwealth Bank seekers - there is one just near the ND Cathederal. Hotel room was a good size and had a great king bed. Superb views from rooftop pool. The ground floor bar makes excellent cocktails (authentic!).

“An oasis in Ho Chi Minh”

The Sofitel is as you would expect for a first class international chain. Fine dining and excellent club facilities. I would definitely use again.

“Cool location, old rooms”

I have to stay for two nights in this hotel. Location is very good and safe, and within 10 minutes of walking you can reach shopping mall and lots of Cafe and modern local restaurants. The room was old, and the shower drain was plugged, even after they try to fix it. 3 minutes of shower only, unless you shut off the water and wait for few minutes for drainage. Overall for room appearance I would not give more than 3.5 stars, and will take off 0.5 point for the problem indicated. I am not sure if all the room were in similar condition, and I can only review one room out of few hundreds in the hotel. Staff are extremely helpful, polite and very professional. If you get a nice room, all your problems are resolved and I would give a 5 star as advertised. Free WiFi are available in room and Lobby. Most 4-5 stars hotels charge you for this, where I find out that 1-3 star hotels also offer it for free during my trip.

“Real Euro feel in Vietnam”

Visually exceptional hotel - very warm, zen like feel. Nice mix of modern, Asian, and Euro feeling all combined. Very good service all around (though concierge was not terribly strong in English, but we managed just fine). Very nice infintiy style pool on top floor, views of Saignon on 3 sides. Rooms very stylish, clean. Only problem would be serious lack of hot water in shower - though I was told by a local that this is very common in Vietnam in general. But I would think chain like Sofitel could and should be able to address this. But overall, being so far from home, this is a very comfortable place to park.

“Satisfied, but with reservations”

We give the hotel fairly high marks across the board, but the quality of the various eating places deserves comment - thus our mark for 'Quality of hotel service'. There is one menu for the downstairs bar, the second floor Minerva Cafe, and room service - with limited choices. (We did not take a meal at the larger restaurant on the second floor). We ordered two items in the Minerva Cafe - a chicken meal with noodles, and baked lasagna. The chicken was horrendous, and the baked lasagna beyond horrendous. Both appeared to have been re-heated. While the breakfast buffet was excellent, we would suggest taking other meals elsewhere. Quality of service of hotel personnel ranged from excellent to satisfactory.

“Fantastic service, good rooms, excellent Club lounge”

I stayed 3 nights in a Club floor room. Was greeted at the door by the Customer Service manager and got checked-in in my room. No need to queue. Fantastic. Good size rooms, nicely furnitured. Club lounge very well equipped. Staff fantastically friendly and helpful. Not too enthusiastic about the restaurants, both choice and quality, but there's plenty good places in the vicinity.

“beds are really hard”

If you prefer really hard beds, this hotel is for you, since most other things are good or great. However, beds are very hard and that may create uncomfortable experience. After first night, they added padding on our bed (there was already one layer of padding). We had to ask twice for that, though.

“Nice place in quiet area”

The hotel is located in quiet area not far from the city center - one can reach most city's attractions on foot while living outside the center's hustle and bustle. Or you can take a complimentary shuttle bus (as we did) and walk back to the hotel. Our room was clean and quite large, though looked smaller due to the bed right in the middle of it. Not brand new, but the hotel staff seems to do their best to paint scratches on the walls in time. What perhaps we liked most are the toiletries in the bathroom - just wonderful. Staff is very friedly and helpful, although we noticed one peculiar thing. When you say something like "I'd like to have..." they generally check the availability and prepare the thing if necessary. If you need something right now you better say it explicitly. The following dialogue is quite characteristic: "We want to take a taxi to the airport" - "Ok, no problem". In ten minutes: "I asked about the taxi..." - "Sure, one moment". And the taxi appears immediately. All in all - a good place to stay: great location, comfort, good if not always fast service.

“Good not Great”

The Sofitel chain is billed as a luxury hotel. The establishment in HCMC is a good place to stay. Staff was courteous, restaurants/buffet pricey and food just good. Carpet in the room was a bit soiled and the door to the room did not close all the way unless pulled shut with force. Should have asked for another room, but with jet lag and late arrival I just wanted to sleep. One thing I have noticed in many hotels, including the Sofitel lately, not enough bright light. I can't seem to get the room bright enough to feel comfortable doing business tasks. All of these would be small issues at a Motel 6, but at a higher end establishment like Sofitel???? Would give them another chance and stay again? Probably, but as the title says, Good not Great!
