Very good hotel in deepest Kowloon

Posted Jun 13, 2015
Pros: The views from our room on floor 26 and the Pool on the 41st Floor
Cons: The dinner we had at the Ming Court in the hotel was very poor. We complained and the main courses were deleted from the bill
Location: There are lots of good local restaurants in the close vicinity and two principal markets: the Ladies' market and the Temple Street Night Market.
We have visited Hong Kong before and stayed in Kowloon, but near the Harbour. This time we decided that we wanted to be further into Kowloon. We were happy with the location of the Langham Place. The Ladies market is less than 100 yards away and this is a good market. Slightly further to the South is the Temple Street Night Market. In the immediate vicinity to Langham Place are many small local restaurants, mainly serving the local population, but prepared to accommodate foreigners as well. We were often the only westerners in the restaurants and were very happy with food quality and, even more, with price. It was easy to get to the hotel from the Airport. We got the Airport Express to Kowloon. We bought a return with a three day unlimited MTR (Underground) Pass, which, at HK$300, is very good value. From Kowloon station, some hotels have free transport, but not the Langham Place, but it is just a HK$50 ride - about £4.50 at the rates at the time of our visit. The room we were allocated at check-in was on the 22nd floor and gave us good views to the East. The air-conditionning always seemed too strong and we eventually turned it off, which cured the problem and the room never got too hot. The room was well equipped and a good size. As an Expedia Elite member, we were then upgraded to an even better room on Floor 26, with great views to South and West. Much bigger and more comfortable.

Excellent location to shopping and attractions.

Overall an excellent hotel. Great staff. They are under renovations, but that should be temporary and it was only during certain hours of the day, and it did not effect our experience. We were upgraded (because of Expedia status) to a beautiful corner room with an excellent view of the harbor and evening light show.

Posted May 13, 2015

Great hotel

Posted May 12, 2015
Pros: The room is clean and spacious. The bed is huge. The bathroom is divided from bedroom by a clear glass wall and there are large mirrors on all walls.
Cons: The over the bath shower is operated by separate hot and cold taps and can be a little fidgety to get the right temperature.
Location: In the heart of old Hong Kong but only a subway ride to the whole city and islands
There are 2 sides to most cities and Hong Kong is no different. There is the modern stylish sanitised side with its high rise business offices and hotels and there is the old but real side where the people live and the buildings are a little shabby. Staying at the Langham Place is a mixture of both sides. The hotel is a very new modern building set amongst the real Hong Kong that is Mong Kok with its narrow busy roads and small shops. In fact the hotel and shopping mall across the road are probably the only modern buildings in Mong Kok. It is a calm oasis amongst the noise and chaos of the city. Yet it is still only a short subway ride to all other areas of the city. The subway is in the basement of the mall across the road (exit C) A little tip:- to get to the harbour take the subway to TSIM SHA TSUI and leave by exit L (ignore signs to exit E as that will take you out onto the HOT street) and use the COOL underground walkway to exit L6. The symphony of lights and tram up to Victoria Peak are both highlights.(sit on right side of the tram and have your camera ready to photo the buildings on the hill as they appear to be leaning at a sharp angle -- it is a very surreal optical illusion) And a visit to Landau island to see the great Po Lin Buddah is worth the time. The best of the modern buildings is definitely the HSBC head office. Stand inside and look up at the glass floor above into the atrium.

rooms getting smaller

Posted May 1, 2015
Pros: area, staff are helpful
Cons: Appreciation for guests not spending £500 a night, I fully expect to start getting pushed out of the way by management when club members walk by
Location: good area, close to tube, shopping, bustling safe area
Is it possible for rooms to get smaller? They used to be so much bigger, for £200 they are too small, next time I go I expect they will have me sharing with someone. Also, they operate a CLUB LEVEL Membership, really nice if you pay the £55 extra every night, but if you dont expect to be sidelined, I kept getting 'are you an club member sir?' Two tier system which at £200 a night is a bit cheeky, combine that with my small room and its leaves funny taste. Mongkok is a good area however, which is the only reason I go back, there is better quality and value on the island.
